Abouriou

Overview

Abouriou is a black-skinned red wine grape grown mainly in South West France. It is primarily found as a blending component of red wines of the Côtes du Marmandais, a sub-region of Sud Ouest (or South West France) just east of Bordeaux.

Abouriou is a highly vigorous vine, capable of yielding large quantities of fruit each season. This key factor, combined with the grape’s naturally low acidity, rough tannins and high alcohol, make it an important constituent of blends in Southwest France. The vine’s vigor and low acid make it unsuitable for use in varietal wines, as the wines would lack freshness and concentration. However, they can provide added body, tannic structure and fruit to many blended wines from the region. From an economic standpoint, the vines’ yield and disease resistance are also particularly attractive to winegrowers.

Typically, Abouriou is co-fermented or blended with classic Bordeaux varieties such Read more »

  • Honeyrun Blackberry Honeywine

    Snoothrank:

When I was alot younger and looking to just get drunk and oh yeah, felt like a good vomit...a friend of mine gave me a bottle of this drink called "Purple Passion". Pure nastiness in a bottle.
