Your favorite under $10 a bottle reds...???....

Posted by Bristvol, Apr 14, 2010.

Recently tried Esser Zinfandel American Canyon Napa County-2005 at just under $8 a bottle.  Great "cheap" Zin.  I would love to hear from others about this or your favorite under $10 bottle.

Red Diamond Merlot ($8)

Columbia Crest Two Vines Merlot or Cab/Merlot ($6)

These merlots are from Washington State which IMHO is the best place in the world for Merlot.  I also like Petit Syrah a lot- and one of my favs isBogle Petit Syrah ($10)  I also like Running with Scissors Petit Syrah but it's usually over $10.

Trapiche, Pinot Noir.  Like $7 retail, depending.  Drinks WELL above that price.

Carpineto Dogajolo Tuscan red is really nice at $9.99 if you have a Binny's near you. Easy drinking wine with nice flavor.

Good call on the Perrin & Fils, outthere. Was also agreeing with your Sonoma chard calls in another thread.

Here's a thread on a similar subject matter from last year, with many suggestions. Most of the wines are still out there. And yes, I recommended the Perrin & Fils, as well as a couple more CdR, there...

What is your favorite wine for under $13 bucks?

Trader Joe's has an Italian Red, Trentarte at $5 or so that's drinkable.

Their Gypsy red blend is typically fairly well received as well.

It's a hard space because under $10 the availability is so different based on where you live.  I often end up buying a $20 on sale for $10 though from Ralph's (Kroger's) if I'm looking in that price range.

Must start with my lovely CARMEN from CHILE!!

Others from CHILE are:

Caliterra Cabernet Sauvignon, also Merlot

Montes Cabernet Sauvignon

Santa Rita 120 Cabernet Sauvignon

Veramonte Sauvignon Blanc

Walnut Crest Merlot

They are all very good and the Carmen is my favourite!

I did include one white....hint...hint....Whites are refreshing, since I am spending more time in warm climes recently!

How about you?

There are other threads with this info.

Would you like to check out such recent threads ?

find good affordable wine in good condition, surprisingly, given

travel etc.. Duboeuf and Latour are always available in the Dutch,

 French,Spanish, and English Caribbean.)

Guigal Cotes du Rhone

Jaboulet Cotes du Rhone Parallele "45"

I think the Goats Do Roam Rhone-style blend is solid for under ten smackers.

If your in the Virginia area - widely avail  --  I find this delicious and perfect for a casual patio wine (just like it's name).  Not a big red wine fan - this is simple and refreshing sweetness with good balance.  Culled from the winery description:

Chrysalis Vineyards Sarah's Patio Red (whole cluster pressed Norton rosé)
The wine in this bottle is unique - unlike any you've ever tasted. Made from 100% Norton, the almost-forgotten great American grape. Alluring fruit flavors and aromas in this wine. And Norton's natural acidity is in perfect balance with this sweet fruitiness.

Retails around $13 - but can find on sale < $10

Frankly, my experiences with red wines costing less than $10 per bottle is that they are quite effective at putting out fires, staining things and other uses that do not require actually tasting them more than once.

PinotJ. reminded me of a time in high school when we would drink Boon's Farm flavored wine or mix Richards Wild Irish Rose w/ 7-Up.  Ahh, good times... :)

Guarantee they were well under $10.
