GDP on Wine

Snooth User: Gregory Dal Piaz

Would anybody travel for a wine dinner?

Original post by Gregory Dal Piaz, Aug 7, 2012.

I'm thinking it would be nice to get as many of you together as possible in one place for a dinner. Is that even feasible?

I would prefer NYC of course, it's local for me, but more to the point I can bring a ton of wine to dinner easily.

If this is support for the idea maybe we can begin to throw around some dates?

I'll be there Fox, that's a real nice gesture, thanks.

Will have to send my 96' Dunn for us to taste against...

Hey, don't worry, I made sure I will be tasting the Spottswoode that night, too!

I went back and looked at those Burgs that Snooth sent for the VT a while ago, and also the others.  I think I'm still waaaay ahead, and that's before factoring in last year's event.  Believe me, when I'm in NY I will always make a point of cadging a few from GregT and GdP.

Well, nephew came and went and wife's show is tomorrow night so November 2 is pretty open and turns out I actually do have more 1990s than I thought, but whatever year is fine by me.

The Gregs and MReff: Folks, if you haven't seen this show, it's worth double the price of admission.  Maybe it's just me, but MReff, with his off the cuff smart alecky humor reminded me of Fenwick, Kevin Bacon's character in Diner.  Of course, we were all drinking a lot, so that kind of played into it.

The price of admission is quite fine, I think.  Unfortunately, I cannot make this venue due to work-related matters.  I was looking forward to this, but I am not even able to meet local commitments at the moment.  However, I am confident we will meet up soon on another ocassion.

Cheers, and enjoy!

Hi Greg & All,

I'd love to come to the dinner on the 2nd of Nov. Has the time and place been decided? Was hard to tell from this looooong thread.

I haven't seen a time and place either but that'd be helpful for planning purposes.

I thought the default was Peking Duck House? If not, that's OK too.  Or depending on how many people there are, come over to Brooklyn and we'll BBQ some ribs.  But that would have to be on a Saturday.

Seriously need to do a feed of this event on the site.  GdP, please respond.  Otherwise I go over your head to Kirsy and that would be brutal.

It's going to happen on Friday night, Nov. 2nd, don't sweat it, since many folks from out of town are counting on it. And because GdP received those Spottswoodes and I have really good NY lawyers who will break him if it doesn't come off. ;-)

Less than I week to go!

My 96' Dunn and Sta Rita Hills Chard are en route to GT, scheduled to arrive Tuesday.

Think GdP's got everything under control, just letting us squirm a bit ; )

So most things are shutting down because of the hurricane we're expecting. Schools closed, lower Manhattan evacuated and they're expecting a storm surge. That means if it's PDH, it has to be the midtown PDH in case the Chinatown one is under water. It's actually on a bit of a hill but getting to it might be a problem.  For those travelling in, I hope the weather's OK by the time your planes are due. I'd check the airports.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think. Transportation could definitely be an issue, or at least a little crazed. Hoping for the best for all the NY and East Coast residents.

Funny, I worked out travel plans last week to get a rep in training from New York down to Florida today. She e-mailed me and said she's going to stay with family in Florida instead of flying back on Wednesday, seems like I probably saved her some trouble.

Subways are shut down and so are buses so I'm home from work. We're over-reacting even today because it's windy but no worse than any number of other storms and there's really not all that much rain. Cripes. I feel like I should open something now and it's only noon.

feel like opening up, I felt like doing that at nine this morning.  Both wife and son are home cramping my style.  So sum it up this Friday, do we need to bring something?

I'm doing fine. It has been a very mild storm so far though I've seen many pictures of coastal flooding that will be truly impactful tonight during today's second high tide when the storm surge is really here.

No rain and barely any wind on the Upper West Side at the moment, so lets talk about Friday.

7:30 at Peking Duck House, I've made a reservation for 14, just in case. I'll bring at least 4, and probably as many as 6-8 bottles. If everyone wants to bring a bottle, that is encouraged. If you don't have a 1990, don't sweat it, bring something good and fun to share. I'm bringing a set of 1990 Barolo, an 87 Dunn Napa then who knows what else.

I'll shoot some video and post tot the site, live feed may be difficult.

What else am I missing?

Don't forget to bring those Spottswoodes I sent you, GdP--something from 1990 indeed.

Guys, have a great time, stay dry! I'll call in on either JD's or GregT's phones.

Oh, for the non-NY crowd, GdP, you might add the address of Peking Duck.  Just in case there's more than one.
