Wines for Thanksgiving
Posted by Healy, Oct 30, 2008.

What are people planning on serving for Thanksgiving?

I'm thinking two whites and a red. I'm looking for wines that will mesh with turkey, all the fixings and appetizers.

First I think I'll go with a light wine that will go with appetizers and can make it through to the turkey. Trivento Torrontes is my current idea. http://www.snooth.com/wine/trivento-torrontes-select/

Apex II Chardonnay - Will go great with Turkey, stuffing and pecan pie. http://www.snooth.com/wine/apex-ii-chardonnay-yakima-valley-2005/

For a red I'd like a lighter wine, since I'm not serving meat. I'm thinking a pinot noir, but this is the place where I'm most looking for advice. Anyone know of this wine? http://www.snooth.com/wine/la-crema-sonoma-coast-pinot-noir-2006/

Healy, I drink La Crema wines all the time and I am a big fan of them. They have improved a lot over the past few years. Their 'Appellation Series' is much more to my liking but the Sonoma Coasts line is great value.

Ah Thanksgiving,,,my families favorite excuse to sit around all day and stuff our faces with food and wine! The women always start off with something sparkling (usually Asti Spumante, can't beat the price), while the men start with beer. Then we have something with our Sushi appetizer, sometimes Sake but last year we mixed it up and had a nice Alsace. Once dinner rolls around we will probably begin with a big fruity zin and syrah. We usually go through MANY bottles and finish off with a port (probably a BV this year because I have a lot of that on hand right now). I am already salivating and it's only Halloween!

I'm actually pretty lazy and simply go grab a red and white burgundy - i dont think you can beat chardonnay and pinot for thanksgiving. And for this occasion i stick to the french stuff as i like a bit of the earthy-ness /minerality that they have.

Healy - Greg's writing a few thanksgiving specific emails - you'll see them soon

Zinfandel and Pinot Noir with some unusual whites to boot!

It should be interesting and I'll post a blog piece of "unusual" selections for the risk takers out there!

This wine was a very big hit last year - http://www.snooth.com/wine/domaine-de-la-terre-rouge-syrah-pyramid-block-sentinel-oak-2002/

I think a dry Rose is a great choice for Thanksgiving. It complements the turkey without overpowering any of the side dishes.
