Wine Spectator's List

Posted by JonDerry, Nov 16, 2012.

For those interested...I have a couple of bottles of the top wine, wow my 1st holdings of a WS-WOTY! There is a lot of this wine out on the retail shelves, so it'll be interesting to see how much the price appreciates. Even total Wine & More has it, can stop on my way to work ; )

Unfortunately, a couple bottles I've been meaning to buy will probably see an increase in price...09' Leoville Barton, and 2010 St. Cosme Gigondas, though production is relatively high for both of these wines also.

10. Achával-Ferrer Malbec Mendoza Finca Bella Vista 2010
9. Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona Brunello di Montalcino 2007
8. Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Reserve 2009
7. Shea Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Shea Vineyard Estate 2009
6. Château Léoville Barton St.-Julien 2009

5. Guiraud Sauternes 2009
4. Clos des Pape Chateauneuf du Pape 2010
3. Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz 2010
2. St. Cosme Gigondas 2010

1. Shafer Relentless (Syrah), Napa Valley 2008

Another Cali Syrah takes top billing, no rhyme or reason to WS ratings. The consensus in winegeekdom was for it to be a Bdx.

Watch retail on the Shafer double overnight.

Yeah but WA has all the thunder for Bordeaux. Still I'm pretty surprised that it's another CA Syrah. And while a fine wine, it's almost  a random choice out of the Shafer lineup.

Lucky I grabbed the 2010 St. Cosme Gigondas before this came out.  I skipped the Clos des Pape this year but that's only because I'm sick of the price going up each year.

How many did you grab Eric? Looks like that one's already getting tough to find...

Think a good match-up for the 08' Shafer Relentless will be against the WB darling 08' Lagier Meredith. Have two bottles of each so could even do it twice if the 1st one's close. Not sure what other CA Syrah's to put in but I'll probably do it later on next year anyway.

I only bought 4, but they'll last me a while. I'm not much of a score chaser but once these lists hit, the prices always go crazy for a while and with smaller production stuff, it tends to disappear.

Here in Colombia you can onley find TWO of these top ten.

10. Achával-Ferrer Malbec Mendoza Finca Bella Vista 2010
8. Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Reserve 2009

To bad :( I'm so sad.
