Wine of Month Club Recommendations

Posted by DHerman, Jan 10, 2009.

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster. I am looking to join a wine of the month club which would deliver 1-2 wines per month to my home. I'm looking for curated wines - excellent choices - and a variety. Anyone have any recommendations of which clubs have been picking fantastic wines? Thanks for any and all advice. - Darren

Hey Darren as I'm not in US I can't give any advice. You'll find a few good ideas here although I didn't realise that you can get one or two wine as here we need to get at least 6 or 12.

Darren - Fibo sort of accidentally makes a great point - you're much better of getting a club that ships you 6 bottles quarterly than 2 bottles per month. You save money on shipping and handling and my sense is that the clubs that offer larger quantities in each shipment will think about the wines more...

However, the shipping does really make a big difference - especially as a percentage of your outlay.

Is there a price range or regional range you are looking for? Or is it the whole world?

I'm all for it - 6 quarterly is perfectly fine :)

Looking for the whole world - looking for excellent wines to try. I guess spending $150-275 per quarter?

Darren - that works out to $25-45 per bottle...

Here's a few that I know are good:
Cameron Hughes quarterly wine club: http://www.chwine.com/wine/clubs/se... - good if you want to get unknown California wines
Wine Messenger quarterly wine club: http://www.winemessenger.com/Member... - good if you want to get unknown wines from outside the US
Bottlenotes (allows 12, 6 or 4x per year): http://www.bottlenotes.com/wine-clubs - good if you want to get known Californian wines

I'm sure there are many others, but thats a decent start.

Darren,

Where are you located. It might be easier to find the right club if it was local. The Cameron Hughes wines are very impressive and since they source wines from around the globe can offer an unbeatable variety with consistent value. I second that recommendation!
