Wine Friday - what are you drinking?

Posted by Philip James, Apr 3, 2009.

OK, its 5.19 - time to open the first bottle. I'm not sure what Greg has planned, but I figured this would be a good start:

Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Pinot Blanc Kritt 2005

What are you looking forward to drinking?

I'm waiting on a bottle of Iron Horse Extra Brut 2004 vintage. Just bought it straight from the beautiful winery right near my house.

Cupcake Merlot 2006 from a friend. Much better than I thought it would be!

Hey only reds,

we just tasted that here at Snooth as I sat down for a chat with the winemaker!

I thought it was surprisingly good too!

Here's the rest of the wine friday wines, and the Kritt review:

Domaine Marc Kreydenweiss Pinot Blanc Kritt 2005
"Light fragrant nose. Mineral, oily and rich. Good acids, and some spice on the finish. Its not a very potent wine, so take care not to serve too cold as that will dampen the flavor." 3.5 / 5

Raymond Reserve Chardonnay 2006
"Lemon zest on the nose - this wine evolves into a medium bodied, well balanced, oaky, yet not overoaked, nice example of a Napa Chardonnay. Very nice for the price, and not too buttery." 3.5 / 5

Dry Creek Vineyards Somers Ranch Zinfandel 2006
"Fungal, meaty nose moving to a lot of acidity for a zinfandel. Its fruity, but thats dominated by an earthy, dirty flavor. Surprisingly tart on the finish." 3/5

Montevina Zinfandel Terra d'Oro 2006
"A hot alcoholic, yet intensely plummy nose. Its over 15% alcohol, so be warned. Literally dripping with ripe fruit - very rich and jammy throughout - lots of bright cherries, plums and blue berries. Hot again on the finish, but other than that really enjoyable." 4 /5

The big fruity in your face Montevina was my pick of the night

Yes, Gregory, a friend bought it for me because it was 1. Red 2. Had a cute name. Surprise! Very nice wine.

Ooo! I want to try the Montevina! Where did you get it, Philip?

i don't know if this is a weekly renewing thread, but on saturday i tried Solar de la Vega Verdejo and Pie de Palo Viognier, liked the Viognier better and it was cheaper!

How's the Viognier? I often find them very floral and flabby...
