Charles - what do you mean? When is the composition of a wine ever "shown". Do you mean on the label (nothing), or in a chemistry lab (everything), or in marketing materials (acidity, sugar, type of barrel, aging, soil ph maybe)?

Hi Philip, sorry it was quite a dull question I suppose.

Whats happening is we are introducing a wine varietal into the Peruvian market which has never been brought here and we need to get approval from the ministry of health.
In order to get approval they are requesting we provide the composition and have given me a form which has 3 fields in it

Composition I Additives I mg/kg

to my knowledge and research composition usually consists of water & alcohol.

Problem is the ministry of health here wont give me an example of a previous application so I cant go back to the winemaker with specifics.

I'm thinking that perhaps it could be just the additives

I think they mean grape composition, in other words

50% syrah, 30% grenache, and 20% mourvedre.

Then they probably want:

Alcohol 13.8%,
pH 3.63
Free sulphurous acid mg/L 45
Total sulphurous acid mg/L 23
Total acidity g/L 4.3
Residual sugar g/L 1.6

And then if you added stuff to the wine, they'd probably want to know that too.

mg/kg seems a little weird to me as a measure. You're usually measuring volume, not weight so it's mg/L. They might be referring to some kind of dry extract, which is a little strange.
At least that's what the authorities usually want.
