Wine & Jalapeño

ok, I love to mix things and here is another one: a tiny slice of Jalapeño in a glass of wine!

Here is what I tasted (up to 10$):

syrah & zinfandel don't work.

cab (Franc is better) & tempranillo - nice!

Grenache - debatable...

...your opinion?

I like to taste my wine for what it is.  I think you're a bold guy to do that though!

I like my spicey (hot), though in my food and then pair that with wine.  Not directly in my wine.  For that pairing I like the opposite pairing.  I like the Shiraz and Mourvedre with their pepper proifile for those.  That said I do like an off dry Gerwurztrarminer with those spicey nuances in it.

Those wines are often suggested for spicy fare (RCKR1951) and many say the result is copacetic.  However, I probably would go with beer (RANDYFISHER) in most cases.  A very strong, peppery Shiraz or Rhone blend from Oz could work - and a very spicy Gewurtztraminer is said to marry well with Chinese (Szechuan, in particular).  Since I like wine, I do have it with these foods, but a Hot Tamale? Or one of those strange hamburgers that taste more like bread-soaked tabasco sauce?  I'd need beer - or even water - for that...

I guess it is all what you have come to acquire in terms of preference, but I am not a fan of disguising good meat, grain and vegetables with excessive spice, salt and sugar; this seems to be a habit associated with tropical countries that formally faced rotting fare (which they needed to mask in order to consume, and add salt to keep the bacterial growth to less than exponential).  This is a matter of taste, and everyone enjoys what they enjoy for a host of reasons.

But doesn't jalapeno pretty much kill your taste buds so you can't taste anything?

If I were drinking Apothic, then yes....kill the taste buds.  But I do not drink Apothic.

I don't drink beer as much as wine, but that's an interesting idea, I'll give it a try instead of lime.

And once again, I'm not talking about you favorite wines full of everything you love - I'm talking about cheap or occasional bottle that for some reason you don't like.

Also, It's not a pairing, like cheese or fruits - it's a Cocktail - don't eat it, just put a little slice into the glass.

Well, anyway, tastes are differ, some people just don't like jalapeños on it's own...

By the way, what you guys do with a bottle of wine that you opened and didn't like? Sangria? use for cooking?)))

I enjoy jalapeno, just not so much in my drinks.  I've had jalapeno infused beer and really didn't care for it.  Now a good plate of nachos or some nice chili, that's a different story.

BTW here's what I do with a bad bottle of wine:
