A really poor move by that officer and some bad publicity for NYPD

Nice cross check. Maybe the Rangers can use him next season?

Woah, that looked completely unprovoked; the cop just stepped up to him and pushed him off the bike! One offficer was stripped of his badge, the other is on desk duty: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,392901,00.html
As a bike commuter, I'm all for taking the lane, but as a pedestrian, driver and bike commuter, I've often wished for a super power something like "cause flat to cyclists that run red lights/bike on the sidewalk/bike the wrong way/cut in front of cars." Critical Mass is rather known for blocking traffic for up to half an hour by running red lights.

Is it any surprise that the cop played football in school?

What exactly was the biker doing wrong? If the cops were in the middle of an intersection, there may be an excuse.

Nothing that you can see from the video. However, maybe he was corking (blocking traffic so the pack of bikes could run a red light) off camera to the right.
That still doesn't justify knocking him over and then filing a false police report saying that the biker steered into the officer, knocking him over.

Those corkers are all a bunch of screwcaps. Rather than go through the controversy, they should issue permits to tackle corkers, so Mr. 325lb. Butcher from Queens could keep our streets clear.

The NY Times has a great article on the rising frustrations between cyclists and motorists:
