Introduce Yourself

Who is on Snooth currently? Are you new, experienced, professional?

Original post by napagirl68, Aug 18, 2012.

I used to spend a LOT of time on snooth, but a job assignment took me away for awhile.  I am seeing some new faces, and some old.  As one who is catching up, I would like to hear from some new people here.   I think/hope we all share not only a love for wine, but a desire to share our experience.  Welcome, new Snoothers!

BTW love that GregT has a profile pic now, been waiting 4 years for that.  Thanks napagirl!

Yes, and so fitting.  Isn't he just the most handsome devil ever?

I am new to Snooth! Based in NYC and spending more and more time with wine.

I like that the forum seems quite active and friendly, so definitely hope to chime in here and there. I hope to also attend cool wine related events (as long as they are not too expensive).

Had a few bottles of lambruscha(?) sparkling red wine the other night. Definitely a nice summer roof top beverage! :)

Bordoo, that is what I want to do, get to taste more than 50 wines to pick one to serve for a birthday. You probably have tons of experience to share! Hope to hear more from you!

Welcome Henry! Do you know which of the Lambruscas you had?

I had 2 different ones. one was the lini 910 and the other Dell'Emilia. What do you think of them? Do you have other nice picks?

In general I am on a budget so except for special occasions, I try to stay under $25 / bottle.

Anything else that is a bit outside the box and good for the summer that you might recommend?

Haha pardon my ignorance, I was thinking the foxy vitis labrusca for some reason! Now I get it! I actually have not had any as im fairly new to wine.

Yes, I am on the same budget too :) sad but i tend to avoid Napa unless there is a good deal.

Hmm the most recent find thats outside the box is actually passion fruit wine infused with habanero for the summer! It was pretty refreshing! But in terms of grape wine, i have been into viogniers or chablis (if i find one) for summer.

Nice to hear from everyone, new and old!

GdP... wine dinner in California wine country sounds lovely...  When you plan your next visit, let us know... I'm sure all of us will have TONS of recommendations for a meeting spot ;-)  No lack of opinions here!

Henry - it was a CdP. But I live in Bkn right around the park so I was wondering how far away you were.

I am more north, closer to East Williamsburg. Are there any BK Snoothers meetups? We could maybe organize one....

NG - Great to see you back on Snooth.  I have been on vacation the past couple of weeks and just trying to get caught up on the forum and other happenings on Snooth.

The content really seems to be gaining momentum.  And I am happy to hear about the work on the database and search capability.  These are two of the most essential items to have dialed in for success (in my opinion).

I don't see D on this thread.  Is he still active on the forum?

And whatever happened to our awesome Aussie Stephen Harvey?

Welcome back! I've been on Snooth for a long time, but got more active a few months ago when I was recruited as a Mentor. Indeed, it seems Snooth is growing by the day! Am also looking forward to a few IRL-dinners taking shape. Though I am based in Europe, I will try to make it over for at least one of them. Perhaps I can see you there?

Greetings from Stockholm!

Hi Erica!

Nice to meet you, and looking forward to reading your input... and yes, it would be great to meet.  Funny, my sister is in Oslo, Norway at present...not too far from you? ~6hrs. ?   I almost went with her... that would have been a fun trip!

Yes, hopefully we can all meet up soon!

Oslo - it's so close! Actually, where I lived as a kid was at the halfway mark between Stockholm and Oslo. Only made it over to Norway once or twice though unfortunately. Especially unfortunate since the Norwegian men are terribly attractive... but then again, the wine is expensive. Started a Springboard notebook (Snooth collaboration) on new Scandinavian cuisine - it's all the rage I guess.

Thanks for finding that marsupial picture - now every time I look at a post by GregT I smile.

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to the Snooth community, I've been a member for a while, but wasn't really active until the VDLT Burgundy VT. I live in the Hudson Valley, NY and I'm the Creative Director at Brotherhood, America's Oldest Winery. I've been in the wine business since 2002 and really enjoy being in this industry. I have really been enjoying the VT's and getting to know everyone. I still need to work on updating my wines and lists, as I have enjoyed many awesome bottles, new and old. One of my favorite things is getting together with good friends, good food and geeking out over good bottles of wine.

I'm looking forward to getting to know more about all of the Snoothers and I appreciate the warm welcome from most of you so far. Bear with me while I update my profile and I look forward to sharing more with the rest of you in the future. What a GREAT group of wine lovers! I'm glad to be a part of it.

I've been on Snooth for a couple of years but not really active until the VDLT Virtual tasting. Since then I have participated in every Virtual tasting. I think they are great and extremely informative. Last nights Virtual tasting in Italy was superb.

I especially like all the info that is available on this site and the input from the members is great.

I LOVE hearing how these virtual tastings are "inviting" in more wine lovers to participate here on the forums!

Hello to Henry Glucroft, Shism, Zinfandel1, BHWColleen and all others... It really is cool to hear who you are, and what you are doing.

I am just a consumer... no blogs, not in the business. I work in govt. scientific research. Boring day job, but I love, love wine.  Learning, tasting, sharing, paring, going to shows, etc, etc.   I have thought about blogging, but my brain often goes too fast for my fingers :-)

Although I picked the name Napagirl way back when, I am, at heart, a Sonoma girl and France (currently mostly Loire) girl. However, I do not discriminate against regions, and try to find SOMETHING I like from all the wine producing regions of the world.

My personal goal is to communicate that California is not all "overdone" fruit bomb wine.  Unless you live locally, it is difficult to taste the literally, THOUSANDS, of small wineries that do not distribute outside of CA.  It is RARE that I purchase a distributed wine (I call those GROCERY STORE wines).  There is so much better to drink here :-)  That reputation is mostly undeserved, as I can find amazing wines here that rival France or Italy, but perhaps they are only a 150 case production, and unless you visit the winery or a local shop, you will never experience them.

Thank you snooth for the AWESOME virtuals...  I used to race home, pop the wine, and frenetically try to make dinner, taste, and chat.  I have gotten smarter, and use the slow cooker to create some pretty amazing dishes that both pair well and are ready to go when I walk in the door.  What a great time the Alto Adige tasting was!  Felt like a virtual dinner party!

@Erica, I LOVE your blog!!  Two sisters wine Tripping is awesome.  So glad to have found it!!

"I work in govt. scientific research"

On primates?

I think you may have mentioned it once, but what field are you doing research in?  BTW - Research is finding stuff out no?  That can't be boring!

Anyhow - you are lucky to be around all those wineries. Some of them have to be horrible, like everywhere, but it's great when you find one that has wonderful wines, and even better, wonderful people. If you ever come out east, bring something good!

NG, I am interested in what you do research in too! and where? Lawrence berkeley, livermore that sort? I love research! Well what can i say. i am a nerd.

I agree with GregT that you are lucky to be around those wineries! I head up there in December for a conference in SF and will likely go for some wine tasting! Will be asking for recommendations! :D

And my first VT was Port with Sandeman. It was so much fun! I missed the Alto Adige one but was catching up on it :)
