Whatcha drinking tonight?

Original post by outthere, Jun 11, 2012.

There hasn't been one of these threads here in quite some time so I thought I'd start it up again. Weather is warm here so I popped a Rosé.

What are you drinking?

Keenan 2008 Napa Valley Merlot

I am the guy who really thinks Keenan is one of the better producers of reasonably priced California wines.

In honor of outthere's presentation:

This does raise the question, though, OT:  How the hell do you keep the grout on your tiled counter so damned clean?

Clean? It used to be white! Haha... Actually it's a fat grout line on the white tile, I used the thickness of a tile as spacing, which is much easier to clean and keep that way. The tan one was sealed after I laid it.

Tonight I am enjoying a bottle of L'Ecole No. 41 Grenache Rose, a perfect way to end a hot day!

Tonight seems to be taking about 5 weeks to elapse, but what the hey?  I have just polished off a bottle of Canadian Cabernet Franc (Blackwood Lane) - a bottle of particular import but, fortunately for me not in the supply needed to produce a nouveaux riche (Chinois) price effect, ironically enough.  I guess I should upload a photo, but the spirit is not there today.  Maybe next time.

In any case, this wine is one hellava beverage.  If any of you make it to Vancouver, pay this Fraser Valley winery a visit.

B.C. wine tonight.

I'm a bachelor, tonight.  Dinner is definitely not approved by the American Heart Association.

Qucik review on the L.A. Cetto 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon pictured above:  OK.  Nothing to write home about.  The Cetto Nebbiolo that I had a few weeks ago was quite good, but this cab does not come up to that level.

I'm more interested in the non-heart association approved dinner!

Had a 2008 Picardy Pinot Noir from Pemberton ($38) in West Australia with Smoked Cod.

Ended up as a perfect match. The Pinot was in the fuller, "stewed fruits" style with some sappiness

and spice. Great length and persistence of flavour. Could have been from Mornington or Gippsland (Victoria) in a blind tasting.

Will have the next one in Southern Hemisphere Autumn.ie April/ May next year.

Mount Palomar Charbono 2007.

OK, not great.  That's why we taste them.

Making a salsa fresca to put over some penne.  Mrs. EMark is fighting traffic right now.

Is it Friday yet?

I could leave my nose in this glass all night. Knockout aromas of violets, dry aged beef and blueberry compote.

OK, it's Friday now.

Kenwood 1996 Jack London Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.

First couple of sips are awesome.

Tri-tip steaks are marinating.  We'll have them on the grill pretty soon.  This going to be amazing.

Tonight: 2006 Talty Vineyard Zin with rotisserie chicken and amazing produce from my backyard.  No point aging these much longer.

Nice to be back in Cali.  Post-Eurotrip, the austerity plan means drinking what I have.  Nice to know I have a half-dozen of these, boatloads of Roar Pinot (some I will age, but who knows what the future holds?), and a bunch of stuff that's pretty close to its drinking window.  Of course, gotta keep buying the allocated stuff I signed up for, which means Mauritson Zins (yay!), Roar Pinots, and few others.
