Emark- the Tablas Creek EdB blanc is great! I have tasted a few vintages and all were very good. I first tasted them at Rhone Rangers SF a few years back. But I found Anglim winery out of paso to be my fav overall, for both white rhones, red rhones, and even a zin.

Agree with you on the Tablas Creek, NG. When I picked it up, last week, I also picked up a Stolpman white Rhone blend. I am also looking forward to that one.

Tonight we followed a magnum of 07 Martinelli "BellaVigna" Pinot with an 09 Wind Gap Sonoma Coast Syrah. Savoring the last few sips as I type.

PN tonight from British Columbia (SpierHead 2010). Still seeking the holy grail of local PN - although this number at least ranks with a much more expensive Monthelie I had some weeks back... both enjoyable if equally undistinguished. As Clive Coates says of Monthelie, "It is not great wine but it is honest Pinot Noir..."

Nice easy drinking Italian 'Baby Tuscan' Blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, great with our tomato based seafood Pasta.

Just got back from the Community Christmas Tree lighting and the little woman popped this one open. Still getting so air but initially giving tart black cherry and strawberry notes.

So tonight it is the Grey Cup (in Canada, our weird - Yanks - 3-down football) and also a birthday in the family, so decided for some Cremant d'Alsace (Zinck) - not wanting to overdo the situation. Sufficient for the picnic atmosphere desired.

Why? Because we were having burgers and curly fries and I wanted to know if I should go back to the discounter and buy more. Wife says, grab a half case. Maybe that's why it was gone in one night.

Bought this at a tiny place in Santa Cruz... not readily available, per my understanding. Very nice... needs to come up a bit more in temp than other roses....

NG, I've had that Birichino. David carried it at WineMine over the last couple years. I thought the 2010 was pretty, but really light, just barely not a white.
No pix, but last night we opened an Aussie grenache from the discounter and it was a loser. Too sweet, very off, like a rose in flavor--fresh strawberries--but like those sweet roses my grandma liked. I gave it a little while, but I couldn't get over the cloying sweetness. So we opened another Ordonez El Chaparral Garnacha and that got the taste out of our mouths. I might have to buy more of that stuff, it's been the go-to daily around here.
Tonight is gonna be lamb chops, so maybe Petit Sirah from Marr that I bought at the Vintage Berkeley store on College ave.

I started putting together some stats on this thread last night, but for ease of record keeping, I'm only counting pictured wines.

An old staple from one of my favorite self sustaining vineyards in the valley... Still far too young, but at the price I found it today - it fit the bill!

Wildekrans Pinotage 2008. Delightfully partnered with my DVR running repeats of Downton Abbey and Chinese take out on the way! The wine is sublime, by the way. A bevy of earthy notes and undertones.

I think it was in this thread that somebody had the Coppola Magenta Label Alicante Bouschet and liked it. I had it last night--v. 2008--and I have to say it is outstanding. I will look for it again.

Yes, I had the Coppola Ailcante Bouschet, and liked it a lot, just picked up another bottle a couple weeks ago at the World Market and sadly it's already gone! That's the only place around me that I've found it, and well worth it.

Out to dinner earlier before Christmas parade... picked this up at wine shop. Very nice, but Balletto's syrahs are still my favorites:
