I'm going to get a head start on tomorrow's VT.  So, tonight I'm going to go with one of these:

I'm leaning more towards the Petite Petit for tonight, but it will be a game-time decision.

The name really bothered me, and, so, I went to the Klinker Brick web site to see why they came up with that name.  It's a pretty interesting story.  The name comes from the kind of bricks that were commonly used for the construction of structures in Lodi.  Apparently, they have a distinctive "klink" when one hits another.  I'm guessing that these bricks are not used much anymore.  Brick structures usually do not do well in earthquakes, and we do have those here in California.

My VT wines are arriving Thursday. No such head start opportunity for me.

Tonight we had some Wagyu Sliders and since I brought it up in another thread I popped a 2009 Scherrer Old and Mature Vines Zinfandel from Alexander Valley. Delicious stuff.

I guess that Scherer was "Delicious stuff," OT.  That bottle is showing a lot of air and not much liquid in it.

I did go with the Petite Petit, and it is quite good.  I did leave plenty for tonight.

Me too, OT, on the late delivery.  But I did participate, especially since I have tasted Lodi pretty extensively.

Ok, have to get some Scherer now...

Tonight, while participating in Lodi Virtual tasting, I had a 2011 Taft Street Russian River Sauv Blanc, along with ginger/ground chicken Asian lettuce wraps.  Pairing was ok, but I think the Asian wraps screamed for a tighter, brighter SB, perhaps a New Zealand.  Love Taft St. tho....just not quite the best with this pairiing.

Yes, you have to get some Scherer.  Go to their website and you can order via a form that you fax.  Maybe they have updated since I last drank it.  Fred was Dehlinger's "assistant" winemaker at one point--I put that in quotes because I'm told that Dehlinger is kind of careful about letting anyone else's name appear in association with his wine.  Fred's family owned the Zin vines used for this wine, and his family farmed them for many, many years before he made wine himself from them.  But since Fred worked with Dehlinger, he's also a whiz with Pinot Noir.  His Sonoma County blend is really a great wine with lots of things, really down the middle, not huge, not wimpy, kiss of oak spice but by no means overwhelmed.  The winery has two open houses a year, and they always fall on a weekend when I can't go.  But you have two people on here telling you:  Buy some Scherer!

Wound up missing the VT (argh, twice now!) because we had car-service issues:  I had to play chauffeur last night to two princesses. My wife drank Klinker Brick last week at Tallent's Restaurant in Bloomington, IN, and texted me that it was delicious.  She wound up talking to the owner because he's cooking one of the Mauritson vineyard dinners in June.  Can't wait.

I will seek out Scherrer for sure.

OT- my Lodi wines came today- I got the Petite Petit and Sangio.  Not opening yet, can you say BOTTLE SHOCK??? (shipped on 4/24)

On a happy note, I saw via email that Klinker Brick will be pouring a a small wine shop very close tomorrow night, so I might stop in.

It is HOT here- I was over in Walnut Creek today and 96F there as well.  So right now, it is rose again for me:-)  2012 Balletto Rose of Pinot Noir, RRV.  Nice rose for the price- strawberry, and a tad of nectarine, perhaps a note of white pepper- but NOT a sweet or syrupy rose-  excellent deal IMO.

It's really hot here, also.  I'm understand, though, that it's not hot in Lodi.

I'm going to finish off the KB Zin that I opened for the VT, last night.

Grilling burgers to go with it.

We grilled burgers, too.  We had a 2007 Lost Canyon Stage Gulch Vineyard Syrah.  K&L was closing these out a while ago.  Seems the winery went under or sold out.  Great deal at about $15.

That Balletto looks nice NG. I may have to crack one myself tonight, a Liquid Farm Rose of Mourvèdre that is. Was a much needed Alcohol-free day for me yesterday.

So after a few cool years and a classic warm year in '12 for CA, it seems like we're due for a hot year in '13

I'm thinking that I might visit this winery next week:

Typical Spring Mountain Cab.  Stay away if you are tannnin-averse.  The kind of wine I like, enough tannin and oak to give you splinters.

Well, brush fires are getting closer.  One in Walnut, now.  Smoke is white.  So, I suspect that they are getting water on it.

Tonight's grilled sirloin will definitely be smoky.

2011 louis jadot pouilly-fuisse

after being suggested some pouilly-fuisse here by a member, i found this bottle reasonably priced and have enjoyed the louis jadot wines ive had before, so gave it a shot. i like it a lot though. well balanced, strong finish, what i like in a chardonnay.

2011 Pentage Gewurtzraminer, from the Okanagan in British Columbia.

I went through some trouble to find this because I had heart it was so good. It's a beautiful evening here - 22 C right now, and this was my pick in light of the warm weather. Ironically it's got a lot going on, not more simple wine I'd anticipated - but it really is great.

I'll probably write a review for it later, but I'm gonna finish the bottle first. :)

Getting an early start on my wine drinking...err, tasting, today. Whispering Angel 2011 (a cotes de provence rose), it's been a favorite of mine this spring but I think I'd like something a little brighter in light of the warm weather. I've had 3-4 bottles of this during the spring and I swear this one seems kind of different and more subdued. Strangely enough, It smelled like brie or some other soft rind cheese when I opened it...I don't recall noticing that with the other bottles.

You can visit Dashe while you are up here too Mark!

Balletto, Joseph Swan, Dutton Goldfield, Graton Ridge, Dutton Estate, Hartford Family, Martin Ray, Kenwood, Hook and Ladder, Fort Ross, Russian River Vineyards, Atascadero Creek, Suacci Carciere, Occidental Road, Alexander Valley Vineyards, Passalacqua, Korbel...

Last night was Asian Fusion and 2008 Bedrock Kick Ranch Syrah.

finished my last final, so i bought myself a nice bottle of pinot

2006 beaune-greves joseph drouhin

not a preffered year for a burgundy but ive read there are still some very good wines from this vintage, i think this is one of them. its pretty great actually. i dont want to attempt to describe it because i feel like i am not going to do it justice. one of the best wines ive had the fortune of drinking.
