My boyfriend and I will be taking a trip to France in about a month and we will be spending 2 days in the Loire Valley. Has anyone been wine tasting in the Loire Valley who could give me recommendations on which wineries to visit? It's okay if the good ones are off the beaten path as we will have a rental car and I would rather go out of my way for a good winery than see a more commercial one in downtown Tours. Thanks ahead for any advice!
What Wineries to Visit in the Loire Valley

Sounds great. I'm envious :-). It's a region of France I'd really like to visit myself.
I've not visited the region before, but here are two wineries I would want to visit if I was going there myself:
Domaine aux Moines
They produce a really good Savennières. Good Savennières needs to be bottle aged for ~10-15 years, and they seem to have a good selection of back vintages which are only a few euros more than the more recent vintages.
Coulée de Serrant
Vineyard and winery of Nicolas Joly, well known proponent of biodynamic viticulture. Apparently it's a very distinctive wine, and very good -- but sadly, he doesn't export it to where I am.
By coincidence, I think these two wineries are more-or-less just next door to each other.
Although I've not had any personal experience with them, the vineyard tours these people do seem good:
Hope these are of some help!

Hi there - I'm an English wine trade professional who moved to live in the loire near Saumur in 2006. Have a look at our website on http://www.letastingroom.com. We'd love to welcome you here for a day and can introduce you to a wide range of wines from the region as well as a couple of guided visits to wineries that are off the beaten track.

Welcome to snooth. It would be interesting if you have time to post stuff to the forum to hear updates and information about Loire valley wine from a local. I also noticed your (very welcomed) updates to the Loire Valley page, you might want to curate that page too.

My bad, I meant Cathy Shore...

I did reply to your post earlier but since then have been busy here in the Loire entertaining clients from all over the world. We've had some pretty good reveiws on TripAdvisor too if you'd like to take a look
I think it's fair to say that what we offer is quite different to anything you'll find here in the Loire. It's not just a day visiting different wineries but a mixture of relaxed education, local info, lovely lunch in our cellar and then winery visits in the afternoon.
If you haven't already made plans it'd be lovely to welcome you here. And living just 10 mintues from one of the prettiest riverside villages in the Loire valley - what more can I say - come and see us.

And my bad, too, for not seeing Cathy's earlier response up the thread. But if I helped coax her out to make the more detailed second one, than it's all good, anyway...
