My favorite Barolo or the best for the money?
If it's the best for the money I'd go for. Keep in mind that you should be looking for bottles that already have some age on them.
Castiglione from Vietti
Brunate from Marcarini
La Serra from Marcarini
Bussia Soprana from Aldo Conterno
As for my favorite Barolo, despite cost, it's Aldo Conterno's Granbussia.

Hi Eric, Thanks for your advise. You said some age on them means looking for 10 -15 years age bottles, right?ie 1990-1999? Any good source for best price?

I will limit my answers to more widely available producers. First off as far as vintages go, and I'll stick to one worth looking for, I think the 1995's are starting to drink well, the 1993, 1990, 1989 (one of the greatest ever), and 1988 are all entering their peak years. 1985 has begun to fade, 1982, 1978 and 1974 are all in peak form as well.
Producers to look out for
Marcarini
G Mascarello
G Conterno
Brovia
Oddero
Cavallotto
Luigi Pira
Roagna
These are the cream of the traditionalist crop though producer like Bartolo Mascarello, Giuseppe Rinaldi and Burlotto make amazing wines as well, though sometimes tougher to source and each is more idiosyncratic than most.

Hey Cigarman, seems like Greg beat me to it and his advise is golden.

Haha, No need to say you both are Barolo fans, both of your advise will study seriuosly by me

Though both Greg and Eric may snort through their noses at me, you should also try a Gaja Sperss for comparison's sake... ;-)

Definitely Gaja is a famous brand, seems I need to reduce budget in buying cigars for more wines.
