What happened to this wine.?

I bought a bottle of wine last night;  a cheap bottle of 47lb Rooster merlot. I opened it today and the cork literally popped out like I was opening champagne. Inside the wine was fizzy and even after letting it sit for 30 minutes it still fizzes when I pour it into a glass. AND it smells like perfume.

I have seen posts on a few forums on other sites that say that this could be due to secondary fermentation, but what they describe is a little bit of fizz at the top of the bottle.  This is more like grape soda pop!

Any ideas? I don't want to drink it but I sure would like to know why this happened. I've never seen anything like it before.

Sounds like it has been heat damaged as well as having a little extra yeast activity going on. I would take it back to the store where you bought it and get a replacement. Preferably something a little better than Rex Goliath. You're better off that it was tainted.
