Anthony - welcome to the site!
I'm not going, unfortunately, but I've spoken to a few Italian winery folks who are excited (seemingly more so this year than usual).
Let us know how it is while you're there.

Thanks Philip - I am hoping to report live while there, maybe through Twitter. Good to hear that people are excited - I last went in 07 and I was sort of getting the feeling that this year it may be a little bit subdued (for example we are taking a bus from Florence that was supposed to hold 40 people but has been scaled back to the 16 of us who are going) due to the overall economic climate.
I have been a member here for a while but haven't really done much with it - hoping to change that soon!

Anthony, I'm not going for the first time in years, so you might be right about Vinitaly's subdued nature this year.
I remember, however, going in 2002 & 2003 with 9-11 and then the nasty business with Iraq - there were fewer foreigners and it was still an excellent fair.
I am sure there will be some Snoothers there, we just need to wait for them to come out of the woodwork like you just did.

Hi there,
I'll be working Sat, Sun, Monday - on the New Zealand wine stand representing Villa Maria Estate. It is our first time there - so looking forward to checking it out.

Cool Tim - I will try come by then. I just posted some photos from the 2007 event. Is it okay to leave links here? http://www.florencewinemerchants.com/events-tastings/vinitaly-2009.html

Hi Afinta,
Absolutely! Great links are even better!
So you're based in Florence?

Hi Gregory - Yes, been spending the bulk of my time here for the last several years.

Nice - I know Cosimo of Rignana! Very good Chianti Classicos.

Rignana is one of my absolute favorite producers - hard to beat on a QPR basis. Poggio al Sole is another favorite that is very near to them - and Antinori has vineyards close by also. One of the magical little spots of earth for growing grapes for sure. Unfortunately I don't think Rignana currently has stateside representation. I did buy a case from Wine Messenger (I think it was them) a couple of years ago. Not sure if they have any left though.
