Valentines Pairing?

Posted by smithdaj54, Feb 14, 2012.

Wondering what everyone is drinking and eating for V-day???

We are staying in, getting fresh Dungeness Crab, and having a 2010 Chateau Ste. Michelle Horse Heaven Vineyard Sauv Blanc.  Not the most traditional meal, but always a favorite! For dessert, a 20 yr tawny port and molten lava cakes.

Salad with light vinaigratte. French style chicken browned and then broiled for awhile with herbs (bay leaves) and vegetarian stock. Dessert will be Japanese mini cakes. We will be having a good crisp Moretti Bianchetto 2010.

With my wife 11 weeks pregnant, we're just going to grab some takeout from one of her favorite restaurants, I suspect i'll be ordering my usual - cheesecake factory shrimp scampi. Probably nothing fancy tonight, have some 2010 Cascinetta Vietti, Moscato D'Asti that should go well with the meal.

Basically a day ahead over here, so this is already yesterday for me. Another exotic custom in Japan is that Valentine's Day (which basically was created by the confectionary industry starting 30+ years ago, and has been fullblown for 2/3 of that) involves the female always giving chocolate to the male.

Anyway, a couple bottles Schramsberg rose, oysters on the halfshell, broccoli salad, a seabass gratin doria. Definitely in, not out. Good music (in this case some old blues, cuz she likes it), good lighting. Dessert, course 1, a sampling of creatively molded chocolate truffles with a well aged armagnac for her and calvados with espresso for me.

Dessert, course 2, mmmmmmhhhhhh.....
