Trophies, Flights and Stats

Posted by vin0vin0, May 1, 2013.

Just wondering if there's been progress on fixing the issues with the trophies/flights not updating. I'm showing 100% completion on the Region Focus and Cellar Master but the trophy is still gray. Same issue with the Forza Italia Flight. Also, I posted a review of Casisano-Colombaio Rosso di Montalcino (2008) on April 10th, which should have completed the Alla Tua Salute flight but this wine was not recognized as a Rosso di Montalcino.

Two other questions:

What constitutes adding a photo to the site (re: photog, shutterbug, what a view trophies)?  I've uploaded quite a few wine bottle/label pics, do these not count?

Is there a way to see which varietals have been recorded as far as determining the number of different grapes tasted?  Under stats, all I can see is the number, not a breakdown.  It would be nice to see what I have and figure out which ones I should be looking to try next. Oh, and do the different grapes in red and white blends count in this tally?

I really enjoy this site and have had alot of fun expanding my wine experiences due to the enthusiasm and professionalism of people involved, keep up the great work!

VV, my experience is that multiple grapes in blends do give you credit for all of them in the "Grapes Tasted" category.  So, if you are tasting Ridge Lytton Springs tonight you will get credit for Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignan.

I observed the same thing you are reporting on Alla Tua Salute flight and with the same Rosso di Montalcino component.  I have tasted and reviewed Podere Paganico (2009), but this is not recognized.

The other issue that I see, though, is listings in "My Wines" that get changed. I assume that this is caused by data base consolidation attempts.  My review of the 2008 Ridge Lytton Springs has been moved to "Ridge Syrah Dry Creek Valley Lytton West Vineyard 2008,"  (Syrah?  Really?)  Similarly, my review for the 2001 Robert Mondavie Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon has been moved to "Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon California 2001."  There are some others.

i also have encountered problems with proper credit for wines in the flights. Especially in the Oregon pinot noir AVA's. I have put at least 5 wines in the Eola Hills AVA review and still says I need to complete this requirement. It has happened in other flight areas also. I do enjoy reading Snooth greatly and would not leave. I would also like to see region and grape variety blog categories to make it easier to read areas of interest. Could this be a future possibility? Thanks for listening to me!

Hey I wanted to update when most of the issues were dealt with, and I'm mostly there:

1) Shutterbug trophy counting is fixed for adding photos.

2) Fixed the Alla Tua Salute flight collection for Rosso di Montalcino

3) Kind of fixed the Forza Italia flight - note that some chianti wines that don't have the region set are not counted, still need to clean up the wine data here or allow wines with "chianti" in the title to count.

4) Eola Hills had to be updated to include the Eola/Amity regions.  Note that sometimes a wine might not have a region filled in, and so it's not verified as part of your collection - however in this case Welkja we found a matching wine so you have the trophy.

5) Love the idea of a breakdown of varieties/regions tasted, also category breakdowns of regions/varieties of interest to follow.  We're currently developing an updated home page that allows you to filter on the types of wines you love.

6) Ridge Vineyards wine merging; correct that it's part of our merging efforts, but we have a way of backtracking!  I just submitted some changes that should undo this merge soon.

Chris Carpita,

Thanks for getting back on the issues I addressed. I am hoping that you can develop a regional and varietal filter for the forum so people can get to their interests easier. Thanks again for your help!

Chris, thanks for such quick turn around, raising a glass of Chateau Montelena chardonnay in your honor.

Chris, this has happened to me before, and it's happening again.  I cannot add a picture/image.  I get they box that asks for the type of image, but no browse facility pops up for me to navigate to the image I want to load.

I confirm issue with photos. Added lots of them and counter stuck on 73%

By the way what does "hand of snooth" mean?

Unfortunately, I have just experienced the same thing with photography. It has given me 100 percent  photography but has not issued the trophy after a week. The same has happened for cellared wines. I have reached 100 percent for wines cellared but no trophy was issued.

@Emark - noticed you are using IE8 - I tried using the same browser and saw the image loader popup.  Are you using the add image link on the wine detail page?

@Apelsecs/Welkja - I believe the issue is resolved going forward.  We have a little script (animal?) called a badger that re-tabulates your badges every day now, and I had fixed an issue with image counting late last week.

Chris, thank you, very much, for your attention to this matter.

Correct on the IE8.

I have tried multiple routes to try to add an image:

  • I have clicked on "+ Add Image" in the lower right hand corner of the default image.
  • I have clicked on "Edit" and "Edit Images" under the default image.
  • I have clicked on "Edit" and "Professional Editor >>" to try that facility.

All these methods pretty much give me the same result.  I get the "Upload Wine Image" box, I can complete the "Choose Image Type" dropdown, but no browse prompt appears.

If it is helpful, here are a couple entries to which I have tried to add images:

  -- Imagery Primitivo

  -- Stolpman La Coppa Blanc

@Emark - I've looked at this in IE8 and can't replicate the problem.  Can you try just one thing?

If you clear your cache (you don't have to clear cookies), it might fix the problem, just want to make sure that's not it.   Thanks!

@Vin0Vin0 - love that you were drinking in my honor btw :D

@Apelsecs - "hand of snooth" means you have enhanced powers as a Snoother - that means being able to edit wine details, and mark spam on the forum.  Looks like you have this power: use it wisely!  :)

Aah! and I thought this features came with new design of web site =)

Chris, thanks for info!

Chris, clearing cache had no effect.  I've finally relented and downloaded Chrome.  Seems to work there.

Thanks for your help.  :-)

Chris, Flights and Trophies seem to be working really well, except for the Aren't You Sweet flight.  I've posted a review of the

P. J. Valckenberg Madonna Riesling Kabinett (2011)

and was hoping that this would complete this flight, unfortunately it didn't take. When I click on the "Find Wines to Add to this Flight" all it brings back is 5 suggestions. Are these all that will be accepted for this entry.  Are there key words that need to be in the wine details for the database to recognize my review?

Also, to repost a previous question, is there a way to see which varietals have been recorded as far as determining the number of different grapes tasted?  Under stats, all I can see is the number, not a breakdown.

Thanks for all the hard work, I'm really enjoying this site!

Talking about HANDS OF SNOOTH, what do you need to be granted this awesome power?

Reply by ApelsecS, Nov 20, 2013.

VINOVINO, for me it takes like 24h to get updated Trophies pictures.

Do you have any changes since November 1st ?

DIEGO, I believe it somehow depends on some magically calculated value based on your "stats score" that you may see at "Wine Rack" page...

Things appear to be working fairly well now.  I posted a review of a Rutherford Cab on 11/2 and it showed up fairly soon thereafter.

Now if I can only find out the how the different grapes I've tasted are tallied, I'd be a really happy camper.  On the "My Wines" page there's a button to "Download Your Ratings".  Parsing this in Excel I come up with a number in the high 80's for grapes tasted.  Looking at "My Stats" shows 68.

But, I attended my first virtual tasting on 11/6 and have not yet been awarded my trophy.
