Introduce Yourself

There are no wines where I am from!

Posted by shsim, Feb 14, 2012.

Hello Everyone,

I am from the tropical country of Malaysia! I came to USA for my education and stumbled upon wine in California! I recently started getting more into it and am excited to be on Snooth! Now I am in San Diego and cannot wait to try some wines in Temecula. They are certainly a young region to be compared to Napa or central coast but its good to go local! If anyone has any advice about temecula wine, please let me know! I have only heard of Doffo being decent...

Here is a map of Malaysia for anyone who do not know! We drink mainly beer and get our wines from Australia and New Zealand!

Welcome to Snooth, shsim!

Temecula's been on the map since at least the 1970s. It never gets discussed on Snooth, so perhaps you can help us all out by posting about any explorations you make there? Lingprof, who sometimes shows up in the Forum but is busy teaching right now, I imagine, lives on the other side of Temecula, up around Claremont. Would love to hear how wine's being made there now, since my knowledge is decades old.

So are you from KL, or...?  I've had plenty of good wine in Malaysia, but outside of Kuala Lumpur and tourist spots like Penang or Malacca or... I usually drink beer there, too. And sometimes some tropical cocktails, though in remote regions I find when I want a cocktail the safest thing is often to have the bartender bring the fixings and I make it myself.  ;-)

Thank you dmcker!

Yea, I have been asking around and there has not been anything conclusive... There is only one way to go about doing this anyway! So I am planning a trip there hopefully soon. I am a phd student so time can be a problem :( but I will defintely share what I find! :D

I am from Johor Bahru, across the border from Singapore! I am glad you know of the place! Usually people are not familiar with Malaysia. My family and I are huge foodie and whenever I head back, we plan a roadtrip to each all around the peninsula and it is wonderful! :)

Yea, my family enjoys wine for special occasions. So we usually import from Australia and NZ. Beer is defintely good everyday beverage to cool down from the heat!

Wow it sounds like you traveled around in Malaysia! I hope you enjoyed it!

Let me add my welcome to Snooth, Shsim.

I am embarrassed to say that I have not visited Temecula in several years, and I really don't live that far away.  Shame on me.

I will, however, recommend Hart Winery.  Very consistent winery, now being run by the second generation.

Let us know what else you find.

Thank you Gregory and EMark!

I have heard much about Temecula, good and mainly not so good. But I would really like to go taste for myself and form my own judgement about it! It would be great to have some good wineries I enjoy around!

Thank you for your recommendation EMark! Marybe it is time to gather all Snoothers around the area and go tasting in Temecula!

Welcome shsim, glad to hear you're taking on the task of Temecula. It's definitely the red headed step-child of california wine regions, but supposedly there's good wine to be had there so hopefully you have some luck and can come back with good reports to share ; )

Thank you JonDerry! I just came back from a field trip in the desert and passed by Temecula as we were coming back home. I cannot wait to try it out regardless of what others say!

Cool Jason! Fellow Malaysian! Apa Kabar!! :D
