The One!

Posted by escabar, Mar 26, 2010.

Hi everybody, I'm Glenn and I am in search of the one. First of all I am no wine enthusiast but I do try and enjoy an occasional glass of red primarily because of the health benefits associated with red wine. I was wondering if some one would do me a solid and direct me towards greatness! I mean that I don't really have time nor do I want to take the time to wade through all the different varieties of different types of wine when right now all I want is a superb cabernet or a facsimile thereof. Nothing ridiculously expensive but worthy of being served to kings and queens. I guess what I seek is an experience where every sip is a cherished and delectable lesson in pure indulgence and this will afford me the opportunity to set the bar as to how I will perceive future choices and purchases. Your help is greatly appreciated!

VINTAGE 2006 is great on its own or with fresh fruit, or rich pate,

or even a cream based cheese.

INNISKILLIN WINES are from Canada

There is no "one".  Wine is subjective.  What I, and many others, may love, you may hate.

The only way to find what's great to you is to do exactly what you don't want to do: taste, taste, taste.  There's no such thing as half-assing it.

good suggestions newyork.  maybe try some other varieties escobar.  other reds like sirah or some big zins?  talk to your local wine shop about what you like and he or she will be your guide.  my original wine guy was a major inspiration and help.  not as complicated as it may well seem.  taste.  when you get the "one" that "knocks you on your ass" it will be life changing!!!  enjoy the ride to it!!!

The best part about searching for "the one" is that it just might take a lifetime (and what better way to spend a lifetime?). It's not priced for everyday drinking, but if you're looking for true love, make sure your quest takes you somewhere near a Ridge Monte Bello!

escabar, I just had a brain wave....why not visit Ridge Winery....there is a great picnic area and for a few dollars you are able to taste a flight of wines!

The view is absolutely breathtaking...as are their wines.....check their website first.

One of the best values in a Cabernet kind of wine is the Achaval Ferrer Quimera. Made to meature the Malbec that doesn't make it intot he Acheval Ferrer single vineyard malbec, arguably the finest Malbec made anyway, the Quimera includes Cabernet and Merlot in it and is really a superb bottle of wine.

My recent favorite Cabernet is the Emblem Oro Vineyard from Michael Mondavi's folio wines.

And of course there are the wines of Italy and the big daddy:Bordeaux to contend with. Check out the Vignalta Gemola from Italy, and the La Vielle Cure for a good value from Bordeaux. I would opt for the 2000.

that's a start. Let us know what you liked and what you didn't

The one is your personal one.  Forget what you just read and keep searching.
