We invite you to experience true creativity and magic of bubbles in our exclusive Pop Up tasting of Growers Champagne and Premium Sparkling Wine. Join us on August 28th 2012 at 7 pm at this exciting event in New York City in the intimate environment of the Romo Show Room! This Pop Up tasting of exclusive terroir wines is limited to 20 people and requires registration on Eventbrite (http://themagicofthebubbles.eventbr... ), as the Design Center will be closed to the public at night.
We will pour 4 Grower's Champagnes, 2 premium Cava and 2 New World Sparkling focussing for each wine on the purity of their specific terroir.
Champagne Tarlant - Benoit Tarlant is a 12th generation wine maker, and his family was one of the Champagne grower pioneers starting to make sparkling wine at the end of the 1920's. Benoit, as his father Jean-Mary, has been pushing several of the tradional Champagne bounderies. His flagship wine is a non-dose, or a naked Champagne, however we will be tasting one of his single vineyard wines - which are all pretty unusual for a region focussed on blending.
Franck Pascal is another small winemaker who has been stretching the traditional Champagne making processes. He studied chemical engineering and focussed on organic farming on his 4 hectatres of family's land in the 1990's. He is one of the few certified biodynamic grape growers in the regions and he is a true purist, something which is easily recognisable in his wines.
Pierre Larmandier-Bernier has reached cult status within the growers Champagne community. His techniques in the vineyard as in the winery are slightly unusual, but they do result in amazing Champagne de Terroir. We will be tasting his Rose de Saignee - a rose with all the characteristics of a red wine reflecting the specific characteristics of Pinot Noir in Vertus.
Benoit Lahaye makes amazing "natural" Champagnes and aims to let the terroir speak by working in a traditional and organic way in the vineyard and minimum intervention in the winery - not obvious for an elaborated winestyle as Champagne. His wines are a true expression of the beauty of Bouzy. We will taste a Grand Crus Vintage wine which will allow you to experience the possibilities of a Grand Cru terroir.
Recaredo elaborates exciting and outstanding Cava since 1924 in Sant Sadurní d´Anoia. They pioneered the production of totally dry cavas, which they vinify in oak barrels and age extensively. We will be tasting their top wine, the very rare single vineyard Turo d'en Mota 2002 made from 100% old vine Xarel-lo.
Gramona is a fifth generation family owned Cava house elaborating cavas in Sant Sadurní d´Anoia since 1881. They are especially known for their "long aged cava's" which wow with their intrinsic complexity and elegance. We will be tasting III Lustros, a Brut Nature, which has impressed many a critic, including Eric Asimov of The New York Times.
New World Wines:
Schramsberg - A Californian sparkling institution known for their high quality vintage sparkling wines. We will be tasting a long aged vintage wine which reflects the teroir of Napa, and explore the possibilities this region holds for premium sparkling wines
Janz - Tasmania is a wonderful place to make sparkling wines. The cool climate produces Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay's with great acidity and structure. Janz is one of the better known producers of this wild but magical island, and their sparkling wine is a true expression of Tasmania's beauty!!
We believe these terroir wines will allow you to discover a different dimension in sparkling wines whilst tantalising all your senses. We will pair them with a selection of oysters and other matched appetisers in the mecca of design that is the Romo show room.
This one of a kind tasting is hosted by two naturally entertaining wine eductators. Onneca and Caroline are both certified sommeliers obsessed by sparkling wines and terroir. Caroline Henry is a writer and consultant specializing in grower's Champagne who lives and works in Hautvillers, Champagne. Onneca Guelbenzu worked for several years in Penedes, the heart of the Cava district, and now a based in Switzerland where she engages in digital wine communication.
