The best wine blogs?

Posted by Philip James, Aug 5, 2008.

There are a lot of wine blogs out there (1,000?), and a host more traditional media entities write on wine as well. I know who I like, of course, but what about you? How do you keep track of them all?

My preferred method until today, was to use a feed reader (i use iGoogle), but that doesn't help me discover new blogs very well. It only allows me to stay up to date with the ones I already know I like...

The rest of the time, I wait until someone sends me a link, or I realize that I've missed the boat and have to squirrel myself in front of Google to read up on, what by this time, is old news.

Snooth's about discovery, so when Reddit announced it was open sourcing its social news platform we realized it would be the perfect way to bring some of this great content to new and budding wine fans.

Snooth News is our early attempt at this. Its decidedly beeeeta, so please be forgiving.

- If you're a wine blogger/writer and you've something to share, please post it here, and in return we'll see what traffic we can send you.

- If you read a lot, please post your top picks.

- And if you're just looking to see whats popular and find something new and interesting to read - Snooth News would be a good place to start.

Click here to try it out.

As always, please let us know what you think. Without you, Snooth would be a dusty collection of static html pages. You are our community!

Talk to you soon -- Philip

I think this is the open source as WLT. If you're interested I can give you the WLT DB to import.

Ping me if you have questions about the code. I have some good programmers that are familiar with the source (unless you're not using the code I think you are.

Slinging Juice - The Wine World's Finest News Source, a new wine endeavor that will shape the future of wine blogs and bring the untold stories of wine to light.

Okay not so much. Think The Onion meets The Wine Speculator. There's some funny left at the bottom of the bottle...

This is a pretty exciting new toy for us to use. I'm looking forward to seeing what the community finds to be the most interesting wine news and links on the web. Between Snooth Talk and news.snooth I think we've got a great opportunity to carry on the conversation.

One thing i forgot to note was that its a separate piece of software, so you would need to create a new account to add/vote on stories. If it takes off then we may integrate the two sites better.

@Tannat Madiran - if you have some blog posts to share you should put them on so we can all see them

@Joel - let me shoot you an email now

Gerry - once you put some articles on there i'd be happy to vote them up for you!

Excellent - I've been waiting for this for a very long time. This additional timely content should draw more eyeballs to the site and make them linger longer. If only it wasn't so primitive!

Blame reddit for the design - fingers crossed, enough people will use the site and then it will be worth re doing the design to fit the rest of the snooth site
