Tempranillo, Californication style...

Original post by napagirl68, Mar 3, 2010.

I realize that most tempranillos are from Spain.  I have had a few GREAT Cali Tempranillos...  Since we are getting into that season... that of grilling very spicy, interesting things on the grill, I thought I would ask for personal recommendations of CALIFORNIA Tempranillos.  I am being so stringent and difficult as to region because my tribe has a Cali palate that I have been unable to change thus so far.  Sooo.. Amador??  Paso Robles????  Livermore???   would love your suggestions on this GREAT varietal.

I've only had one CA Temporanillo, and I really liked it (especially at the price point).  Was $25CAD, but I'm sure in USD it is $15 or so.

Spencer Roloson - Madder Lake Vineyard Tempranillo

An interesting quote from their Wikipedia page.  Not sure what to think about it, but I suppose it might say somethinga out my tastes! :|

"The winery is an early client of
Enologix, a computer software-driven laboratory analysis service run by a friend of Spencer's that helps winemakers match taste profiles to wines rated highly by Robert Parker and Wine Spectator."

Now that's scary. Don't know anything about Enologix, but imagine if you were to start a separate forum thread on it you would get some lively response....
