possible business  travel in next six mos to Interlaken.. thinking of side trip to Cinque Terre... I am European wine illiterate.  Help.  Is this a good side trip?  Or should I sidetrack it somewhere else in Italy?  Limited time on this one.

A good trip. Might as well stop in Portofino on one side, and the Barolo area, relatively near in another direction, while you're at it, if you have the time. More, later, have to run out the door right now.

NG - Stay in Monterosso and do the walk about 12 hours of great scenary, crazy italians and coffee at each village.

The food is absolutely stunning, local wine is OK mainly whites but the ambiance and culture is just to die for.  PLus its about two hours from Florence and the great wines of Tuscany

We did it last May [09] and it is just a cracking place.

My 20yo just left Interlaken and is now in Prague via Munich [drinking beer at Oktoberfest]

Burranco winery just above Monterosso has stunning views - Burranco Sciacchetra is also a phenomenal white - see

Cinque Terre is a great place to unwind and enjoy life at a slower pace.  I don't remember any great wines in that particular area but you don't go there to visit wineries.  The views are intoxicating by themselves.  Keep in mind that it can get cold and windy in the late fall and certainly in the winter.
