Some random software gripes...

Posted by napagirl68, Sep 16, 2010.

I have noticed a few things that drive me nuts on the forums here... for one, I would love to have a back button for a message/post I am writing.  I can't tell you how many times I am very into writing a message (looking up wine notes, etc) and some random button I must hit (still UFO at present) takes me back a page and all I wrote is lost.  Major bummer.

Also, I find it is impossible for me to cut from a snooth post/message I have written before, and paste directly into a new post/message.  If I try.. I get a bunch of dashes.  What I do to help this is to paste my copied material into notepad, and copy from there, and paste into the new snooth post/message.

Just some gripes here.... but LOVE the site, of course!

Haven't experience you second problem, NG, but definitely your first, far more times than I care to remember. Would very much welcome a fix!

My gripe is not having a link to the latest post in a thread on the main Forum page. The link is to the poster and not his/her post. 2 clicks and a page scroll instead of 1cick.

I agree with outthere, besides, I always like a good gripe.  It could be done with a latest post link at the top of the thread as well.

While we gripe...  I have already pointed out that the region search does not work right, since it pulls from the name.  Some names like Willow Creek are AVAs and vineyard/winery names in Australia.  If there was an easy way to tag certain wineries so that it would no longer pull the region area, this could be a manual fix.  A box where users could tell the system that the region is wrong....  Am I asking too much?  Probably.

Also, a different list comes up if you put in the name of the county only, like "Humboldt" that what comes up if you put in "Humboldt County".  Go figure.

Come on people!  There must be more gripes...  (joking of course, this is a great place.)

No way, keep them coming. I would love to know what you folks are finding in your use of the site.

Everyone comes to Snooth with a different set of tasks in mind, uses the site differently and generates a unique expereince.

If you've got gripes, and I know you do, I want to hear them!

Gregory -  As long as you're looking for abuse :-) , my pet peeve is the way one wine can end up named in half a dozen ways, which scatters the reviews rather than collecting them into a consensus rating.  (Look up "Fleur de Bouard" for an example.)  I've no idea how you'd solve this... maybe allow users to flag the more badly fragmented entries for manual repair?  Perhaps you can prevent it with a "did you mean XYZ?" query, with pictures of candidate labels, when someone creates a new entry that may not in fact be new.

YES, jpdemers!!!  I hate that too!

And sorry, didn't mean to start generalized gripe thread.. just hoped there were a few fixes..

We definitely are hearing you on this, we want to do everything possible to make your experience at Snooth care-free and pleasant.

@napagirl68/dmcker - the issue with losing your talk posts is a particularly upsetting one, and it turned out to be relatively easy to fix.  You should get a warning whenever you try to leave a page with a half (or fully) written post.

The copy-paste thing sounds really weird.  What browser and operating system are you using?

The duplicate wine issue has been a thorn in our side from some time.  We're always looking for ways to make that more manageable.   We appreciate the help!

Hi Ccarpita- I know... sounds weird, huh?  It seemed like something that would be my computer's issue, but it only happens on snooth, not other forums I visit.  So I wondered if others had the problem too.  Sometimes it is not just dashes.. sometimes text pasted over text- sometimes meaningless symbols.  I do not have a computer virus or worm that I know of.. am protected and do virus updates daily... I do need to scan again with my anti-malware software tho.  I will do that today, and if a worm or trojan horse is found, I will try the cut/paste again and see what happens.

I am using Windows vista home, and I browse with IE 8.0.
