some 82 brdx, a barolo, port and sauterne

Posted by MReff, Dec 12, 2008.

A bunch of us got together the other night at Greg T’s for some dinner and some aged wines.

1996 La Rocca La Pira Barolo

Some funkiness on the nose wet earth, with cedar and cigar box aromas. Mild acitidy Nice.

1982 Chateau Le Gay
Nice fruit on the nose medium acid, great balance. Some hints of cedar and berry flavors for the fruit. A great mature Bordeaux. Even after an hour it still held together.

1982 Chateau La Dominique.

Funky nose cedar and spice a lot of green like overtones. Some residual fruit. Someone questioned whether this was corked but the consensus was that it was not. The funkiness could be due to storage?

2005 Peay Marsanne/Roussanne
Aromas of peaches and honey, toasted almond. Some oak a nice balanced white wine

2004 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast
Chocolate. Mocha and a lot of fruit. Did not go well with the above wines

1983 Dows
Some good fruit sweet with hints of leather. Elegant but we thought that it aged too fast due to the storage conditions.

1975 Chateau De Rayne Vigneau Sauterne

Nice caramel color some boytritis and wood on the nose. I was hoping for some almond flavors but it fell rather flat on the palate. Could be past its prime.

Great collection of wines ... wish I could have been there. Anyone stand out for you?

The Ch Le Gay was the winner in my book. I bought this at auction for $70.00 and it was amazing. I had high hopes for the Dow and the Sauterne but due to poor storage conditions these wines failed to entice me.

One day I've got to get out to Brooklyn and bring some real wine to Greg's house.

Great notes though, if you ever have time it would be great to see you post them on each wines page, like here: http://www.snooth.com/wine/dows-vin...

Pasted and copied reviews Greg to your site. Enjoy, and yes you have carte blanche at Greg's house so long as you bring a decent Barolo, lol

Cheers
