Smoked Salmon with what wine?

The other day a friend surprised me by asking if I would like to try some home made smoked salmon. "I would love some".  It was absolutely some of the finest smoked salmon ever.  The following day I got to thinking that I might give it a try and smoke some of my own on the condition that I could find out what wine pairs with it.   My knowledge with food/wiPne pairings is limited to the basics such as, Port & Bleu Cheese, Sauvignon Blanc & Goat cheese, Riesling & Pork Tenderloin, Chianti and Pasta, Cabernet & Steak but for Smoked Salmon, I draw a blank _ _ _ _ _ !!    

I now yield to my fellow Snooth experts and ask for you to guide me on this one.  I am anxious to find out what is recommended to sip with my smoked salmon.

The no-brainers are, first, champagne or similarly styled sparklings, and then a large-enough still chardonnay....
