Silicon Industry

Posted by Philip James, Sep 25, 2008.

I read a great article on the new "Atom" chip from intel - a very small new chip for handheld pc's and mobile phones and there was a great quote:

This was in response to the pace of development of the silicon chip industry...

"If Ford or toyota had innovated at a similar pace, a car would probably travel half the speed of light, and if you were going to San Francisco for a week it would be cheaper to throw out the car and buy a new one, than to feed quarters into the meter"
Mooly Eden, GM Intel Mobile Platforms Group

A pretty thought provoking quote, just not a very environmentally sound one.
