I have not been to Sicily but the wines are superb. Gulfi is worth visiting as is Salvo Foti and Occhipinti. There are many others but those spring to mind as some of the absolute best wines being produced there. La planeta should have a great winery tour so I would definitely make plans for that.

Thanks so much for that info, Greg. You have obviously tasted many wines I will definitely be looking for those wines on my visit there, and check out the Planeta tour.

Maybe this will be a little late for your trip, but Sicily's greatest wines come from the Mount Etna part. The volcano soil gives to the wines amazing style. If you have to try one, you should do Tenuta del Terre Nere. The owner is Marc de Grazia, He is one of the most influancial wine figure in northern Italy and now sicily. He owns this winery and produces some amazing stuff like Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo. He also started to do a white last year I think. Worth looking into ;)
Hope you will read this in time...
Cheers
Quentin
