... but there are only 40 items in the search results.
The term 'hundreds' would indicate to me at least 100+
? should read:
Showing results 33-40 of TENS for easy drinking; Red
? perhaps there are other pages, but I do not have the option to move past page 5 of search results, if extra pages do exist.
Showing results 33-40 of hundreds for easy drinking; Red

Rich - is what we do unclear? the idea behind it was, we already sort by relevancy and rating (snooth rank). why would a user want to page out past 50 results?
thats already the 50th best wine for that query.
let me know what you think?

If you say you've got 100s of results, SOMEBODY wants to see them, or at least believe that they exist.
text hidden at the bottom, "click for the dregs"?

What was unclear to me was the SORTING. How are things being sorted, and do I have any control over how I sort the results.
From a usability perspective I think if it's made clear that ONLY the top 50 results will be returned and HOW they are sorted, then I reckon you probably hit the rule of catering to 80% of users.
However, there will still be people who'd be interested to see what's going on past 50 - especially if I'm a company trying to optimise my database of wines so that they get a high listing on snooth, I need to know quantatively how I'm doing, not just a binary top 50 or not...

we will add some sorting, but dont want to allow people to page out to the 1,000th result.
the sorting (snoothrank, price etc) should help people for now
