Set your location

Posted by oceank8, May 21, 2008.

My home page keeps telling me I can set my location. Every time I click on it, all my stuff is there, including my location, but it never comes up anywhere. What am doing wrong?

When you select a location you should then be able to search within all products sold in your country. When this is active you'll see a message to the effect of "Showing results 1-10 of thousands for under 20; Red from merchants... All Merchants in Country: USA". The "All Merchants in Country: USA" means you're searching within USA.

Then next step is to choose a merchant if you know who you would like to buy from. When you click add a merchant, you'll be provided with a list of merchants who you can buy from. There are checkboxes by each merchant so select a few and you can search within their inventories.

When we first launched this feature we announced it here:

It looked different back then but the basic idea is the same.

Are we talking about the same thing? When I click home, this saying comes up:
"Set your location to search for wines in your area"
When I click on it, it take me to "My Account" where I have my zip. Nothing about adding a merchant. Not a big deal, just confused by it.

Hmm... Yes that does sound confusing. That message is supposed to appear to call out the "Add a Merchant" link. I'll look into it... there's probably a case where we aren't managing the flow correctly.

It sounds like either the bubble isnt pointing to exactly the right link, or perhaps your browser isnt displaying the bubble's tail, and its just a dull square pop up box, which doesnt indicate which link you need to click anyway.

We'll look at making the text of the bubble, or the "add a merchant" link clearer. Maybe "set location", or "narrow search" or something might work...
