SeaSmoke Pinot - take my extra bottles?

Posted by tedvaughn, Mar 25, 2011.

I have a large allocation of SeaSmoke - 2009 - great vintage from what I hear!

What I'm looking to unload and prices are as follows:

4 Southing Pinot - $65 each.

3 Ten - $95 each

2 SeaSmoke Chardonnay - $60 each

Let me know if interested -

One of CA's most overrated "cult" wineries?  No thanks.  ;)

You beat me to it, GDD. Still drinkable, but at maybe half that price...

Still learning, so bear with me…

If this wine is not all it’s marketed to be, then how can online vendors, like K&L, expect to get $100+ per bottle? I wouldn’t think the casual wine buyer would readily drop that much for an untasted bottle, esp. if, as you say, it’s really only worth $30 or $40.

It's one of those beasties known as 'cult' wines. Some people like it, of course, but others buy it and show it off because of the cachet. Like all those bottles of Petrus on tables in restaurants where the consumer personally points the label of the bottle out towards the room.

Check out prices of Screaming Eagle from Napa. *No* wine is worth that price. You're paying for something other than what's in the bottle. A cult wine closer in location to the Sea Smoke from Santa Barbara would be Sine Qua Non based in Ventura but also sourcing Santa Barbara grapes.

Hmm, so it’s a trendy “prestige” thing. A vendor sells it high knowing that someone is going to buy it to impress their friends. Thanks for the reply dmcker.

another thing that drives the price is the availability of the wine... sea smoke isn't something that you will run across often, so those with allocations will charge accordingly....

and it deffinitely has its fans.... just not GDD... : )
