Searching by member/contributor

Posted by dmcker, May 12, 2014.

I've long thought it would be good if Snooth made it possible to search the forum and article footers for contributions by specific contributors. Start with threads originated by each member, then graduate to all their posts in other threads, too.

Does anyone else think this might be useful?

Definitely, would be very useful.

Seems like it's been a while since a request has been made of the powers that be.

I agree, that this is a good idea.  It would be cool, for examples, to be able to retrieve GregT's contirbutions from the Forum.  He has composed some very interesting epistles.

Unfortunately, I am not seeing the, for lack of a better word, passion, from anybody from Snooth in the last year or so.  I have seen no new features, but, maybe any enhancements have been "behind the curtain" and not apparent to us visitors.  The only Snooth guy who seems to participate here on the Forum is GDP, and that is really intermittent.

There was another Mark working for Snooth at the time who used to weigh in as soon as any of us would post a suggestion like this. Who's performing his role now?

*No* response by a Snooth tech or other-responsibility person?? Things have changed...

Yes they have been AWOL for a while.

Thank goodness the Edit function was implemented. Also like their user friendly picture function.

Must be on at least their third CEO by now, right? Only sign of continuity being GDP himself...

Third, yup. and here I am. In Italy as you probably know. It's a good idea, it's all indexed already by user ID so it shouldn't be terribly hard. Incidentally that mark that used to comment was our former CTO who returned as the current CEO.

Things have indeed changed, though hopefully not as much as you fear.

Thanks for the update, Greg. Good to see you here, occasionally?

Though I would probably place priority on visiting/drinking at the wineries you're at now, too!  ;-)

Also, and this just came up in another thread on the forum, does or can Snooth have some place on a pulldown menu where we could go to see 'authorized' or 'friendly' wine-related blogs or journals or newletters or whatever that Snooth would want to link to?

So what are the prospects for such changes?

That would be a nice touch.  However, on a slightly tangential issue, it might also be useful to try to rein in the tendency of people to merge wines where such merging might evoke that ever-so-horrible word violation.

Someone, for example, keeps moving my red wines to white.  Now I may have native American heritage as well as white, but that just isn't fair and it is annoying...

Second Zufrieden's comment about the poor administration of the wine database.  Indiscriminant merging has resulted in my description of white wines as being garnet colored.  No, at the time I was not describing a white wine.

It happened again...!  I will start a thread on this issue (see the last two posts) but no time just now.  Tomorrow perhaps.
