So this past Friday, I hosted a tasting of sauvignon blanc. I tried to show the most popular areas, taking into account readily available options for most shoppers. I hit the major producing areas, except for South Africa.
All in all, New Zealand won out as they always are a favorite of mine and the rest of the "panel" agreed, finding them to be the most powerful and enjoyable examples of the varietal. A welcome surprise from Washington made its way on to my favorites list as well.
People mentioned links to the wines and my reviews would be nice, so I will include them here and hopefully it works. We tasted 12 wines, covering Chile, France (Touraine, Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé), Sonoma (Fumé style and regular sauv blanc style), Columbia WA, New Zealand, Paso Robles and Napa. At the end, as veryone was enjoying the remnants of their favorites and the Kiwis winning out, I opened from my own cellar, the 2008 Nobilo Icon from Marlborough. God I love that wine!
Anyway, here is the lineup for you in the order tasted. I purchased all these at Total Wine which just opened in Las Vegas, getting the mixed case discount of 10%, except the St. Supery and the Justin, which I purchased at Lees. Enjoy!

Thanks for that! Very informative... I have a suggestion or two, if you can get it.
2009 Deer Ridge Vineyards, Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma Valley, Private Reserve - I love this wine! OMG.. so good.
I also have always loved Morgan Sauv Blancs (Central coastal area of CA), but haven't tasted in awhile... some years/vineyards better than others, of course.

Yeah, it's really easier if people want to read my reviews to just go to my profile, view my wines and then select reviews. They're all there in order. Well, backwards order.

I live the last 11 years in Europe, and really understood wines follow trends. Right now, Savignon Blanc is very popular in Europe, especially New World Wine like Nobilo. It's very hard to find the wine like this where I live now in the US, so far I found a 2008 Clos Du Bois Sauvignon Blanc from North Coast. This is a good wine. I hope to find a similar test as the Nobilo. Thanks for your comments above.
