Rioja Live Tasting Date???

Posted by Pyrifera, Apr 24, 2012.

The upcoming Rioja live tasting looks like fun.  I'd like to verify the date.  The Snooth front page says the tasting will be on 4/30, but the click through page says 4/29.  I think 4/29 is probably correct.  Can someone verify the correct date?  Thanks!

Another question, and pardon my naivete, but does "Rioja's Tweet Chat" mean that you have to use Twitter to play?

Thanks for asking that EMark.  I was wondering that myself.

A date w/ Rioja sounds like a great idea...will try to attend once details are firmed up.

Forcing a virtual tasting, or whatever, to be via Twitter sounds highly questionable, if that's what is happening. Twitter personas are one thing, even with hashtag tweetchatting, winetasting something else--for some people, at least....

This old Luddite will have to pass. My Canary died.

Aside from resistance to Twitter itself, as some seem to be indicating, tweets are waaay too public (even more so than Facebook wall posts), and something I or someone else may not want to advertise via whatever persona to the world at large. Hey, even dimwitted politicians have learned as much!

Seems like Snooth may be trying to stuff square pegs into wrong-shaped holes. Keep our discussions within our community, I say....

Yeah, I'd agree that twitter is a clumsy fit for this website.

Seems like a great platform for sports and other celebrities.

Would concur with D, or if social networking is a priority that facebook would be a better fit.

This is not exclusively a Snooth adventure, but rather we are partnering with Vibrant Rioja to promote their event. I'm the MC, so even if you don't want to participate come take a look!

We'll be ramping up our Facebook presence this year and testing the water with Google+ hangouts. Any other suggestions you guys have are always welcome.

Aside from marketing, the purpose of the tasting seems to be to get people together, albeit virtually, to taste wines from certain producers simultaneously and share their experiences with one another.  I agree that it would be nice to be able to have our group/live tastings within Snooth, without having to mix in other user personas or sites.   I don't think Snooth has that capability currently.  And it seems the use of Twitter wold work in the meantime.  The tasting page looks like it will have a section where all the Twitter messages will be aggregated for the wines being tasted, which will essentially bring all the wines and everyone's comments about them together in one place.  I certainly see disadvantages, but I'm interested to see how it will work.

I know we tried this in the past, with Skype, but if anyone want to hang out and talk about wine in a closed group, maybe we should set up a Google+ chat and give that format a test run?
