- revisiting your first wine
Hey all,
I don't know how many people remember your first favored wine, but I do. This was the first wine I actually enjoyed, and it by itself, launched my love and I may say, addiction, to wine. Relax Rielsing. In the beginning, I would have said at best I thought it was kinda sweet and with some citrus. but now I tried it again. the nose was rich with a light background of grass with a semi-smeet citrus, pear, and grapfruit. the Palate is a rich sweetness, only slightly syrupy, heavy with honeydew melon, pear, apple, and a nice beautiful finish of citrus. Not bad for between $7-10 a bottle.
So, if you know, what was THE wine that got you started?

1973 Marco Donati Teroldego, in 1975. My first case purchase! I have a single bottle left.
I don't remember the wine that well but I do remember how i reacted to it. It was love at first sip! I had had wine before but this was exciting, delicious, fresh and complex and worked brilliantly with the food we were eating.
On a different note, the oldest written review I have for a wine is my 10/2/85 review of the 1982 Santa Margherita Cabernet Sauvignon $4.99. I was living large!

I'm going to cheat and name 3. For me it was not so much a single wine as it was a wine country experience. Somewhere in the early 90s. And the 3 wines I have vivid memories of, which kick-started my obsession, were Iron Horse Blanc de Blancs, Niebaum-Coppola Cab Franc, and Gundlach-Bundschu Cab Franc. Interestingly I haven't had the latter 2 in a number of years, but now I'm thinking I should....
