Rendering problems ...

Posted by John Andrews, Dec 23, 2010.

Guys,

Not sure if it is just me but I'm seeing some rendering problems using Google Chrome on the wine details page.  The page loads fine, appears complete for a few seconds and then many of the elements disappear.  I can send a screen capture if needed.  I'm using Google Chrome 9.0.597.17 which appears to be most recent.  It only seems to be the wine details pages that have issues.

HondaJohn - I actually use Chrome 7.0.517.44, which does not give me the option to update, hence I thought it was stable.  Actually, Chrome 8 is the current stable release.  Chrome 9 is in beta, so I would expect some things to be a little wonky.  We don't support non-stable browsers on Snooth, as it would make our jobs impossible!  Can you try using a non-beta version and see if it's still a problem?

Not sure if that's visible, but it represents the Chrome version distribution on our site.  For one reason or another, I was stuck on v.7 (0.5% of chromers), probably because I went to 9 and then reverted, screwing up permissions.

Right now version 9 people are ~ 2% of Chromers, or 0.2% of the users on the site (1 out of 500 people), so we probably will wait until that number goes up before we site-test on that version.  Early adopters beware!

Update - I experienced the same rendering issue in Chrome 8.  The solution was somewhat nonsensical, and involved adjusting a CSS rule slightly.  This should be fixed now, but please let me know if you see this happen again, and on which pages this is happening.  Cheers!

Seems to be working again for me now. For what it's worth, I didn't seem to get the problem with the stable version of Chrome 9, but did with a beta version. (I upgraded to the beta version only recently, as the auto update feature does not work on the stable version of Chrome for OS X).
