Red wine fan in Dayton Ohio

Posted by redsfortherestofus, Mar 30, 2010.

Hi all!  This is a fantastic community!  I'm really happy to be here!  Anybody from the Cincinnati/Dayton metro?

I am a bit of a newbie in the wine world, but I do like my reds and I make a point of reviewing them on my blog redsfortherestofus.blogspot.com

I have also shared my reviews on these wines here on snooth.  It's really great to see so many people with a passion for wine!

Happy un-corking!

Forgot to mention...  Quality red wines under $20 is where my passion is for now and it is the subject of my blog and I primarily drink Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir though lately I've developed a fondness for Petite Sirah.

BIG BIG WELCOME...

Tell me something...What do you think of OHIO'S wineries?

Have you had an OHIO ICE WINE?

Thanks Amour!  Happy to be here!

I have had some fairly good wines from the north eastern region of the state, but that was several years ago, before I began keeping notes - so I don't have a lot to say.  Regardless, I want to get around to sampling some Lake Erie wines - I know I've had some good reds from New York's Erie region as well.  Maybe this summer I'll take a weekend tasting trip up to Lake Erie, but I'm in southern Ohio so it's a good 4 hours away.

Typically I enjoy dry reds, so I have only had one ice wine.  It was not from Ohio - but it was delicious.  I will say that I am a fan of port, and I occasionally enjoy a glass of the tawny port by Meier Winery in Cincinnati http://www.meierswinecellars.com/...  Silky smooth and semi-sweet with a hint of cherry and a nice warmth.  It goes great with a warm, chewy, fudgy brownie!

Great red wines for under $20.00 would certainly include Malbec from Argentina.  Check out my blog from Mendoza Argentina wine region.
