Recommendations

Posted by kevchan, Jun 14, 2007.

Can I filter my Recommendations by Price Slider and by Red/White etc.

Maybe even present Red/Whites/Champ/Fortified is different frames

As when I am looking for a rec. I have usually already decided if I thinking of buying a red or a white, or a special occasion champers etc

I know I keep harping on about a map, but what about a map on the rec page showing where the rec's are geographically located. I can then click on a region/country and it will autofilter the others out.

I agree that I'd like to have some way to manage looking through recommendations. I just did it, and it is kind of irritating to page through 40 responses...

... especially when all the wines I've rated are between 10 and 20 dollars and then maybe three of the 40 wines I'm recommended are under $50, including several in three digits and one at $595. What's up with that? Isn't price a relevant point for recommendations? If not, I think that it should be...

we did a major import yesterday (several hundred thousand ratings, with tens of thousands of prices) - we should have enough data to add the price cap back in to the recommendations.

we're not there yet on the 'only show available wines', but we're headed there.

filters may be coming - we need to add them to the search results page first.

I can't figure out how to make this not sound whiny ("You ignored me!"), but I want to make sure that you absorbed a point I dropped at the end there: I have rated no wine above $20. I have no recommendations under $20, and 37 of 40 are over $50. Something's very wrong with that.

Does recommendations already take price of rated wines into account when recommending wines? If not, I think that it should, and that would be better to have sooner than a price cap slider. I see how they serve the same purpose, but I think it would be better for the default behavior to key into the user's prior experience. We should have to do something special to go looking for a wine outside our usual drinking habits, not something special (turning on a price cap) to find one that's in them.

aha, ask and all will be ok.

"price cap" (in this context) wasnt supposed to refer to the slider but in fact a bit of maths that looks at the price of what you've rated and makes sure the reco's are in the same range - you'll soon be able to bathe in sub $20 wine!

In fact should you recheck your recommendations, you will see an improvement in the price spread.
