Quigley's Fine Wines

Posted by inkfast, Oct 2, 2012.

Has anyone else received a call from these guys recently? I'm a member here and at Lot 18 but that's it. A lady called and said someone gave her my name and number and wanted to sell me wine of course. When I told her I wasn't buying wine over the phone she became very argumentative and finally ended the call with a personal insult. I do not recommend doing business with these guys.

In Oceanside California? Never even heard of them.

I used to work with them, and it was a very weird situation.  They would call me during business hours at my office, and pretty much lie to my secretary to get through to me, saying that it was a personal call (which of course it isnt) and then ask me about the kinds of wines that I liked to drink.  When I asked how they got my name they told me that I was either at a tasting or someone I knew was.  Either way they would not take no for an answer.  My guess is that they use a lead procurer to get people's names and just cold them.

Mind you, I did order some wine from them, it was delicious - not like something that I could pick up at the store, but the way they conduct their "calls" bothered me, and I informed my secretary to never accept a call from them again.

Georgia from Quigley called me at 10:00 a.m. yesterday wanting to be my wine consultant.  I told Georgia that I did not need a  wine consultant and did not appreciate her calling at my place of business to talk of such drivel. Georgia became argumentative at which point I interrupted and reminded her that God gave her two ears and one mouth which is why she should listen more than she blather on; told her not to call back - ever - and hung up.

She must get a commission for sales.

Greg, what's this place like?  It's in San Diego apparently.

There's no lower form of life than a cold-calling telephone salesperson. And I'm in sales!

Most lawyers, all politicians, 2nd-rate fascist-leaning trigger-happy law enforcers, any bureaucrat who happens to be frustrated in private life, private prison-services outsourcing contractors, private military-services outsourcing contractors, weapons merchants selling to warlords and others on this list, Drug Cartel members, fundamentalist religious fanatics armed by the above...

Unfortunately I've met them all, and others, 1st, 2nd and 3rd worlds. Shall I continue? Poor 1st world sales folk are relatively harmless once you learn how to defuse them.

DV - they're four blocks from my office. I was going to stop by today but didn't have time - won't for the next few days but I'll try to see what they are sometime this week. I was sceptical but when I looked at their website, turns out I know one of the Spanish wine makers so now I don't think they're bogus.
