Saludos.

You should also look at Brunello di Montalcino, usually pricier than Chianti, but made from the same sangiovese grape. Or Rosso di Montalcino, which is less pricey but has a number of very nice wines. Both of them are also from Tuscany.

Tuscany also makes some 'Super Tuscans' with blends of French grapes (cabernet sauvignon and merlot), which may or may not also include sangiovese. Some are impressive, delicious wines, but, again, some of them can be pricey.

After looking at sangiovese you should look to northwestern Italy and the Piemonte district where nebbiolo is the grape. Barolo, barbaresco and so forth. Some are pricey, but some more reasonable and many are world-class wines.

Finally from down south past Campania toward Sicily there's another grape varietal called Nero di Avola. Different flavor profile, and much cheaper, in general. Some are quite tasty, though, and well worth a try.

Greg DP on this forum is a great source for more info on Italian wines. If you can post in English you'll likely get a great response from others, too....
