Question on Winery Search

Posted by EMark, Aug 29, 2011.

Guys, I love the site, and I want to ask a question regarding the winery search function.  If I enter "Ridge Vineyards" and click on the search button, I get multiple pages of possibilities that appear to be any winery that has the word "Ridge" in it.  Often it is beneficial to get this feedback--i.e., if I vaguely remember that the name of the winery was "Ridge Something."  More often than not, though, I am looking for the one that has only the word "Ridge" in its name.  Is there a way I can perform the search and limit it to exactly the characters that I enter?

Definitely hear you on this one EMark - we're long overdue to correct some of these issues in search to give you more control over stuff like this.  It's part of the product plan, but I can't say exactly when it will happen.

You can try a "literal" search wherein you surround your entire search query with double quotes (e.g. "Ridge Chardonnay") and that will at least limit your query to wines/wineries containing that precise phrase.  I know this probably doesn't do everything you need it to, but it might help for now.

Thanks, Chris.  The literal search suggestion cuts down the hits significantly to a manageable collection.  I appreciate your help.
