Probably not counterfeit, and way out of my price range.

Now here's an auction, supported by receipts.

Of course, where is Ron J (see page 19) to authenticate those Brown Derby receipts? Still, probably nothing Bill Koch will want to bid on, since he'd have no one to sue.

Not even going to watch online, nor am I going to suggest that my nephew in Chicago attend.  However, I am interested in splitting a double order of Burgundy from North Berkeley Imports to get the almost 50% discount.  I'm well resigned to the idea that I'll never taste Leroy, DRC or a bunch of others, or any Bordeaux firsts.  I feel pretty lucky that I get to discover up and comers near me, hang out with OT and his friends, and occasionally drink a really great thing like the '89 Jaboulet Hermitage I was treated to in October.

Very Impressive. Have any of you ever seen an online auction?  Are you just rolling the dice when it comes to the integrity of the wines?  Ive recently had some good buy offers but I hesitate when I cant physically see and hold the bottle.

When it comes to these rarefied bottles, you're probably always rolling the dice, even if you can hold the bottle.  After all, would you know the counterfeit from the real? Good thing about drinking (yes, actually drinking!) bottles of good but not culty/first growth wine is that that there's no incentive to fake the contents.  That doesn't mean that there aren't bottles at all price points that are fake in other ways--MegaPurple, acidulated/chaptalized/not the variety the label says or from the AVA, oak chipped--but no one is "counterfeiting" $15 Chianti or $40 Rhones.

This particular auction is both online and physical, but I don't think it matters that much--reputable merchants are the better bet, but no guarantee at all.
