Please think about adding this new feature

Posted by Martingauthier, Dec 6, 2009.

Hello Team,

I was reading the forums today and I noticed something that is really common. Snooth members seems to be very generous. It's not rare to see members inviting other members over when they are visiting their town or country. We often see "please drop me a line if you happen to be [contry/city]. As a member of A Small World we can use a function to notify other members if we happen to visit their city/country. Then members are sending invitation to meet. Imagine if this function could exist in Snooth. It would be a great way to meet with other members and exchange a sip or two over a good bottle of wine.

Question to members : Is this of interest?

Question to Snooth managers (Phil, GreggT) : Could this be possible?

Note: I will be the first one to use it : )

I would really love to try out such a feature, as I live in dead center Alabama and look for any chance to get out. And on that note, if people were going through Alabama, I can only imagine you would want something to break up the monotony (like a glass of wine).

I would really be interested in such a thing. Especially for traveling guests, or even maybe annual events.

I would be happy to provide info for the Northern Cali area. In fact, I have given (don't know if it was taken ) recommendations to a number of members. I definitely be interested in leveraging the knowledge of members outside of my area.

Great! Keep on posting guys...

If we push in the same direction, Phil and partners are going to go for it. Kylewolf, great idea for annual events. Should be included....

I agree that'd be a cool feature to have!

Agree with all. And would add that it would be nice to have an easy way to see where people are. Other than a few folks who have a city in their user name, profile (which requires some drilling down) or mention it in posts, I have no idea how many of you may live down the street from me without me even realizing it. (Unless I'm missing a feature that exists already?)

I am in agreement...FULLY!
EXCEPT, some very cautious souls would SCREAM about SECURITY ASPECTS.
And many there are, yes.
But we wine lovers are open and for risky ones like me...I would fully endorse any efforts to unite the WINE LOVERS / SNOOTHERS in the interest of THE VINE and, of course, SNOOTH!

I'd be in.
It could even use google maps api. IE go to the Find A Snoother page see a world map with lots of dots. Zoom in and click on the one on Christchurch NZ and be taken to my profile (or a list of ChCh snoothers), which in turn could have a portion for what I'm offering. IE meal, accomodation or just local info. Those who didn't want to partisipate could just have an opt out button next to the location part of their profile and then not be referenced on the FAS map.

To GhostLemur : What a great idea! And it's easy to do too!

To everyone : Thanks for your feedback. By the way your all invited at my place if you happen to be in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Keep posting!

I also think that this is a great idea. Its always good to meet people with the same passion. And about the security aspect, the feature would only show in what city one is located, without further details. After being contacted everybody would decide for him/herself whats the confidence level. If one is not confident to meet the other person, at least one can provide useful information about restaurants, wine bars, wine stores etc. Plus it would be a great feature to see who else lives in the same area.

Well, if anybody ever makes it to Mexico City, here I am...

Yup, I've got to agree, this would be a cool feature. I've met other people blind from the Internet before (not dating, thank you very much) but through of all things, fantasy football. These are however, people that I've interacted with online for several years so there was a bit of a familiarity level.

Now, in conjunction with this, what would be really cool is if Snooth could sponsor or otherwise hold some type of wine convention where we could meet other Snoothers in a stess free environment. That would make individual get togethers far more likely once the anonimity had been removed and reputations had been secured in person. It would also be a way of strengthening the networks being developed online.

Jimmy,

Thanks for your vote : )

I could not agree more with you, Snoothers wine convention could be awesome. I think it happened in the past though but it was not publicise freely. Anyhow if you happen to be in Quebec one day, let's share a bottle together.

Work out something, then - taking into account some of the security concerns. I'm pretty open, myself, but I understand the need for a little caution. For most of you, though, I'm sure the front door could be kept more than a crack open!
