Looks like your kind of event, NG, with the cheeses as well as the pinots. Mine, too, since I see a halfdozen to a dozen producers whose tables I'd beeline for.

Do they pour their other wines, too, or is it mostly pinot noir? And how come the coastal producers seem to largely boycott the event?

Also meant to aske, but was rushing out the door so forgot, how do you get a VIP invite?  ;-)

You get the VIP by paying $10 more than the standard price.

The event used to be held at Rodney Strong Vineyards but has been moved to downtown Healdsburg so they can squeeze a few more tourist dollars out of the attendees.

As for Sonoma Coast I see a lot there. Sojourn, Littorai, Benovia, Wind Gap... Noticed a few standouts from the Santa Cruz Mtns such as Rhys and Windy Oaks as well. Should be a real nice event this year. Very tempting but will be a last minute decision as we will just be back from vacation.

Littorai and Wind Gap were on that short list of mine I mentioned above, though I've yet to have any Sojourn or Benovia (Wind Gap also caused me to ask about non-pinot pourings). Just thought a lot more of the usual suspects in that neighborhood were missing. I was also curious to see all the Santa Cruz additions....

Well, we'll be on the plane back from NYC that day.  Sorry to miss yet another great Sonoma event, but the consolation prize is drinking Greg's wine the Thursday before. (Hmm.  Maybe the Sonoma event is the consolation prize for not getting to drink Greg's wine...)

dmcker, when are you going to just move to the Bay Area and go to all these events?  And doesn't the frequency of the events make Northern Cal more appealing than Santa Barbara?  Although it's a tough call, I admit, even for me.

Of course I was thinking of a clifftop retreat above the waves around Jenner, too.... ;-)

Pretty damn foggy a lot of the time, but that's small price to pay. Could one ever be de-sensitized to a view that spectacular?

Nevah!  Sonoma coast is an AMAZING retreat.  To have a glass house on a craggy bluff there, fog, wind, and all, would be HEAVEN!

Now, NG, we all know that only those with blameless pasts should live in glass houses... unless the neighbors are far, far away. Or really good friends.  ;-)

Now that is hilarious.

This may be TMI, but I can pretty much guarantee that nobody wants to be that good a friend with me.

Rest assured Sonoma Coast residents, if the Mrs. gets her way, and we move to your neighborhood, it will not be a glass house.  Preferably, all windows will be Pacific facing.

If you are interested in the Santa Cruz Mountains wineries: we are doing a special regional seminar and tasting Sunday 9am in the VIP tent. You need a VIP ticket to attend. We have 10 Santa Cruz Mts. Pinot producers, some you know, some new faces, all fantastic Pinots: Mount Eden, Thomas Fogarty, Windy Oaks, Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard (pouring a 2001 estate that has just been released!), Muns Vineyard (the highest Pinot vineyard in the region at 2600' elevation), Big Basin, Burrell School, Alfaro, Rhys, Beauregard, Vine Hill. I don't think we've ever had such a large contingent of SC Mts. winemakers at an event outside of our own region before, so this really is a great opportunity to taste and explore the distinctive mountain Pinots of the Santa Cruz Mountains! Hope to see you at the event. Hope to see you at the regional seminar! - Mary Lindsay (from the Santa Cruz Mountains)
