Pairing Wine with Road Kill

Posted by cgplayer9, Aug 25, 2012.

Tonight, I paired my road kill with a 2007 Niner Cabernet Sauvignon and felt like it was an excellent compliment. Sorry, I just couldn't resit the temptation: my wife and I had carry out from Texas Roadhouse tonight and I had the menu item called "Road Kill", which is a chopped steak with grilled onions and mushrooms and Monterey jack cheese. And I truly did pair it with the Niner, and couldn't help but be amused at the thought of pairing wine with road kill! Surely there's a good joke in there: you might be a redneck if....

A winery in East Texas (or the Panhandle) might want to market an everyday wine that pairs with roadkill and might even go by the moniker "Roadkill".  It depends on just how many white-tail deer are felled per day by the half-ton pickups that proliferate the roadways (I confess to knowing something about these chariots of the back roads having grown up in the north of Canada and, of course, road kill...).

Yes, there is more than a joke or two here...
