Olive Garden Wines

Posted by flatliner1569, Apr 5, 2011.

I recently had this wine at an Olive Garden that I have been trying to find. I thought maybe I could find it else where for cheaper. I did not think it was a house wine but after searching for it I cannot find it anywhere. I then went to look on their website to see what they had it listed as in case I was searching wrong or something and it is not listed on their website. I'm pretty sure its not a house wine that is exclusive to them but I'm not sure. If anyone could help me out who is more familiar with wine and such then myself it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Did you ask anyone what type of wine it was ( Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, etc, etc. ) and what the winery name was ? Also, the vintage ( I almost forgot that ).

No. I do have the bottle so I know what it's called and the year on the bottle. It says Roscato Rosso Dolce 2010

Im sure. Its a darker wine, red and sweet. Possibly a dessert wine. They didnt call it that but I thought it could be. I emailed someone at the company and they said it is exclusive to them so it can't be bought anywhere so now I guess I'm just trying to find a good wine like it. Wanting to have something like it at my wedding. At Olive Garden it was $24 a bottle. Also, someone online said that they think they rebottle wine or relabel it or something with their labels...I don't know.

Maybe you can try a Port from Portugal. Port is medium to heavy and sweet, but if you don't want a fortified wine you can try perhaps a kosher sacramental wine sich as Carmael King David Sacramental wine which sells for about $7.

If  $7 sounds too cheap, remember that restaurants triple the price of wines on their wine list so the wine you had at The Olive Garden would sell for around $8

Roscato Rosso Dolce 2010 is actually exclusive to Olive Garden for the next two years.

I think it's available in Pennsylvania from the PA Liquor Control Board.  It's $8.99.  And also the Utah Beverage Board.

flatliner - it's not uncommon for a wine to be sold only by a single restaurant chain or a large buyer like the state of PA.  If I'm not mistaken, the wine is by Cavit, a big producers, and if they can sell their entire production to Olive Garden and a couple state buyers, or to someplace like Costco, they're in really good shape - that's the dream of every distributor, rather than have it dribble out a few cases at a time. You're always trying to make one of those sales. The great thing for the restaurant is that their customers aren't seeing it in a store at half the price or less, and since they bought so much, they have a nice fat margin.  Another thing you do is put a different label on the same wine that's sold at retail, for the same reason.  So you do a private label, which is extremely common, or and exclusive, which is also very common, and the customer like you ends up a little confused but you still liked the wine at the restaurant, so it's not like they did anything wrong.

The flip side is that you need to have a sufficient quantity of wine to interest those large buyers - they can't do much with the small boutique producers.  So while you might find some worthy wines at those places, you're not likely to find a lot of stupendous stuff.

I'd look for something similar and take some of the suggestions offered.  May be better anyway!  Cheers!

What would be a similar wine to the Roscato Rosso Dolce 2010 that I can find at a Binny's type store?

My Wife went to the olive garden and now is on the Hunt for the Roscato Dolce Red Wine. She has saved the label and this is what is said about it, Northern Italy provides a spectacular backdrop for Roscato, a violet-hued red with aromatic potes of cherry, blackberry and red raspberry.  A touch of sweetness and bright acidity underlies the appeal of this charming wine. The traditional winemaking style for this fruit-forward red complements regional "heart and soul" cuisine such as brschetta, calamari, pasta in red and cream.

Roscato Rosso Dolce is a blend made by Cavit wineries in partnership with Olive Garden. I don't know where to find it at a liqour store, but I know I had bought it from a liqour store here in Oklahoma because Oklahoma law makes wines sold in restaurants avalable in liqour stores too. But it's made by Cavit and is a blend so i hope this helps some :)

Anyone know a wine shop in KS or MO, perhaps around Kansas City area, where we can get Roscato Rosso Dolce 2010 - without having to pay $15/bottle shipping from NY??

If you buy the case its only $24 shipping,, so $2 a bottle. and you get a 10% case discount too. It brings it down to almost $1 a bottle shipping cost after case discount!
