Ya think the FeEx guy would have just called it damaged and left it at that. Nope, he left the darn thing on my porch in the sun no less. At least he put a body bag around the evidence. What a tool.

That's pretty brutal...hopefully your pictures should be all the evidence you need.

There have been a rash of such 'deliveries' by FedEx and UPS and others caught on home security system videos lately, Giacomo. Some of them have gone viral. I kinda like this one where a hard drive serves as a frisbee. Looks like there's a bit of pentup frustration in that job, especially during the holiday rush!

It also looks like original packaging was suspect in your case, outthere, and that wine bottles with wine in them might be a little more fragile than boxed hard drives in bubblewrap...

In the criminal justice system, offenses against wine are considered especially heinous.  The dedicated detectives that investigate these vicious crimes are members of an elite squad called the Special Vintners Unit.  These are their stories. [clang clang]

Sorry.

My bad, and apologies to the country and people of Malaysia.

Yeah, he is Indonesian. Was thinking that but for some reason typed Malaysian. Guess I should drink coffee in the morning before posting....

Haha you know, sad to say but I would not be surprised if he was Malaysian anyway.

D beat me to posting those videos.  Right around that time, I was having a new LCD TV delivered and was relieved that I was home when it got there--although my neighborhood delivery guys have always been really good.

I once tried to convince a judge that Asians were biased within Asia about nationalilty.  I did a project for Standard Chartered bank's private banking division in Singapore back in the day that would have been flat illegal in the US for its violations of EOE rules.  (They're in the news again. I didn't have anything to do with this person's hire.) This was relevant because my client, ethnically Cambodian, was mistreated by a cop of Chinese ancestry, who called him a name that reflected the bias.  No dice--to our judge (who was normally good and definitely sensitive to other kinds of bias) all Asians were the same.  That said, it's a good thing folks here have a little more worldliness and understand when the other guy is joking!

SVU: Special Viticultural Unit. I could go over to the law enforcement side for that.

Just catching up here.  Was not a signature required for the delivery of this wine?  If it was found on the porch, it sounds like there was no signature by the recipient.

Hmm, not supposed to deliver wine without a signature from someone over 21.  Unless of course it's not consumable by anyone but a cat with a drinking problem.

Coincidentally, outthere, here's a chance to benefit by the misfortune of other bottles.  BP Wines sent this while I was typing another comment after reading this thread.

  Dear Oenophile,

A lot of people ask me how we keep prices so low. The answer is this: we don't have a big, sexy store on Main St. Not that we wouldn't necessarily want one, but having a big, unpretty, concrete and steel warehouse lets us operate at what we call "lean and mean." Our overhead is lower than your typical well-appointed wine shop and so we can keep prices aggressive. We also buy smartly. We taste everything. We know exactly what we are buying and why.

On that note...this batch of Bordeaux...where do I start? First, it's a bit of an ugly duckling. These wines all have COSMETIC issues to varying degrees. Why? Because we bought these from a HUGE Bordeaux exporter, and these wines were taken out of circulation because of the labels. In huge warehouses, stuff happens. Pallets fall from forklifts. Forklifts drive into pallets. People drop cases, people drop bottles, and every time this happens, glass breaks and wine drips and leaks and gushes and makes a spectacular, aromatic MESS. Wine drips on to other labels, soaks into wood boxes and paper wrap, etc. "Affected" bottles are set aside, for someone to deal with another time...they may be $15 bottles or they may be $800 bottles. Over time, they pile up until someone savvy (that's us) comes along and turns on the charm, and a deal is struck.

Second, we have sampled many many bottles (hey, it's gotta be done) from this mass of "dusty roses" and we can say this: the wines are in superb condition, and because of the visual appearance, they are INCREDIBLY PRICED. We have sampled from the perfect bottles, and the older and/or heavily conditioned bottles (we do a lot of diligence), and we have found virtually everything to be in excellent condition. We say this a lot, but we mean it extra-triple-uber-!!! this time: these are WAY below the competition.

So, to emphasize again: NONE OF THESE HAVE PERFECT LABELS OR CONDITIONS. Some are just a few spots, some are badly stained, some have badly torn labels. If you are buying these for the look, this isn't your batch. We will not have time to send pictures today, and we will sell a lot of these fast. If you buy to drink,

Haha dmcker, im true blue Malaysian but I did go to school for awhile in Singapore. Best of both worlds they call it. Foxall, asians are one of the most racist I know and this is from experience. Maybe I am generalising too much but of course not all of them are. It is just funny when my mom tells me not to be friends with the black guys in school and she obviously does not have any black friends.

I wouldnt mind getting a few bottles of those Foxall, the stains give it a rustic feel to it! Even better.

Shi, you can go to BPWines.com and sign up for their emails, and you can buy there.  $9 shipping in Cali for a case--can't beat that, and I get mine first thing a.m. after I ask them to ship (they'll hold it for 6 months while you fill up a case!).  They have explanations of all the codes for stains, low fill levels, torn capsules, whatever.  They buy cellars from collectors, odd lots from wineries, and other kinds of deals.  One of the original partners moved on to found LastBottle.com, a flash site that is pretty good.  BP and LastBottle generally do deliver pretty well on price--when they say lowest, it's usually true until someone undercuts them.  But they don't always say.  I didn't publish the list, but this is 95% truly high end stuff and the prices are good, but not unbelievable.  The provenance is probably fantastic, since they say it is, and they haven't misled me yet.  They are also very nice to deal with.
